You had stated the possibility that he was worn out and burned out. That condition doesn't just happen overnight. You have signs of it from the beginning when no one knows it but you. That is what I am talking about. I've been there, done that but never in such a sensitive important job as Mr. Tenet of course.

Ollie North would be a good candidate, even Mansoor Ijaz is better than Tenet.

According to Robert Gates, who was the head of the CIA under Bush-41 and is good friends with Tenet, (Gates is also the President of Texas A&M but lets not discuss that) he believes that Tenet resigned simply because of how stressful the job is. Tenet was around longer than just about any other CIA director and Gates said he expected Tenet to quit but not until Jan. 05.

Sounds right to me.

Now that we're squeezing some Al Quaeda biggies and making them sing, will we find out they were also behind TWA 800 and the Airbus that went down in Queens?

All on Tenet's watch. With Clinton's blessing.

I think he was tried of the BS and well as the stress

But Sen. Levin was just on Niteline saying that Tenet resigned because he exaggeration of the intelligence

Didn't take the Dems long to jump on this one

It isn't a question whether to make him director or not. Just submitting his name will make the RATS run in circles deciding what to do.

Why would would the RATS run around in circles if McCain's name was submitted even without the intention of appointing him to the top post? I think the RATS would love to have him up for or even appointed to that position so they could have one of their own directing and coordinating the reconstruction of our intelligence service. Just serves no legitimate purpose in my view.

WTF too late. Look at the garbage this idiot was supporting under clinton - you remember it now. Anyone who is running a national security type organization and doesn't push back on this kind of nonsense should have resigned the moment his support of this garbage was found out.

"The intel has been remarkable since 9/11 "

I disagree. Perhaps my standards are higher than your's in this regard....perhaps you think the WMD "hunt" has gone exceedingly well. Perhaps you are so partisan you can't consider there might have been a rather gross error within the CIA ("Its a slam dunk, Mr President" is the quote attributed to Tenet when queried about where and if the WMD's were in Iraq, and undermines this part of your post completely).

"CIA has done a great job, no matter how you, and other Bush bashers, try to spin it. "

Sorry the failure of the CIA is so obvious to most of us it isn't even close to debatable in the opinion of the vast majority of Americans.

I'd consider your post much more seriously if not for the "Bush Basher" comment. Thats as much in error as Tenet's intel reports regarding WMD's in Iraq.

If we use political party membership (I'll take a guess and bet you belong to the GOP) as a filter for whats working, whats not working.....failure is preordained.

I've supported this President since 1999 with my vote, with my posts, with my cash, and with my time beyond the internet. To suggest otherwise based entirely on my stated disenchantment with George Tenet is ridiculous, but typical of straight party line voters everywhere.

Sorry, I didn't drink the kool aid......of either party.

I've supported this President since 1999 with my vote, with my posts, with my cash, and with my time beyond the internet.

Congratulations, as have I.

To suggest otherwise based entirely on my stated disenchantment with George Tenet is ridiculous, but typical of straight party line voters everywhere.

I typically vote Conservative or Republican or Right-to-Life, though I've been known to stray from those tickets. I've never even considered voting for a losing candidate in a close race, and will never throw away my vote for losing causes. I'll work within the Republican party for change, and in primary contests.

No matter what you would like to believe about Tenet, he has done a remarkably good job in a very difficult time. You are not at all typical in believing that CIA has failed the country in the past three years. What they did in the pre-BASH was incredible, and may well be responsible for the easy march to Baghdad.

As you certainly KNOW, WMD programs were found to be even more well constituted than we thought, according to Kay's report. In addition to what we found, the records successfully destroyed in PCs found with damaged disks or fried themselves attest to far more than may ever be known. Iraqi WMD workers are still afraid for their lives - those who have not been killed by terrorists, and those have been myriad.

As for any "stockpiles" that were the subject of the slamdunk comment, if it were not for FRANCE and GERMAN and the other isolationists and peaceniks throughout this country and the world, they would not have been shipped to whereever they are now. Every intelligence agency, including the French and possibly the best (next to ours), the Israelis', know that those weapons were there prior to 2003. CIA and DIA have confessed that there were shipments to Syria after UN-1441 - and you know full well what that likely consisted of.

Libya has succumbed now to President Bush. Certainly you must suspect CIA had gotten the goods on them in order for that to occur.

In addition, other corroboration of terrorist/Saddam ties has been slow in coming, but trickling out. CIA was again right.

CIA has not and did not fail us, despite the stupid Torcelli and Gorelick debacles. To "blame" 9/11 on CIA is the height of Monday morning quarterbacking, and for evidence I will predict that the greatest of the Monday morning quarterbacks, Congress, will do just that, rather than place the blame on the Torcelli amendment, Congress ignoring the importance of CIA since the fall of the USSR, and the 'Toon/Gorelick/Reno wall.

Tenet has done a remarkable job despite those.
.
