The man tapped to head Iraq's new interim government is vouching for the authenticity of evidence that links Saddam Hussein to the 9/11 attacks.
Though the notion that Iraq played a role in 9/11 is considered heresy in U.S. intelligence circles, newly appointed Iraq Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said Tuesday that a document purported to be from Saddam's intelligence service that places lead 9/11 hijacker Mohammed Atta in Baghdad two months before the attacks was indeed "genuine."
"We are uncovering evidence all the time of Saddam's involvement with al-Qaeda," Allawi told the London Telegraph. "But this is the most compelling piece of evidence that we have found so far. It shows that not only did Saddam have contacts with al-Qaeda, he had contact with those responsible for the September 11 attacks."
According to the Telegraph, Prime Minister Allawi said the document was "genuine."
As first reported by the Telegraph in Dec. 2003, the document - a handwritten memo, dated July 1, 2001 - provides a short resume of a three-day "work program" Atta had undertaken at Abu Nidal's terrorist training camp in Baghdad.
Nidal was executed by Saddam's secret police in August 2002 in what some suspect was a bid to keep him from telling what he knew about 9/11.
I can't wait to hear the liberals say Ayad Allawi is a Bush stooge.
Bmp
They'd rather believe Saddam's stooge, the pedophile Scott Ritter....
Not true. See-BS, the Comrade News Network, ABC, NBC, PMSNBC, and the Democrats have all said there is no connection between Saddam and Al-Qaeda. /sarcasm
Dimmies.....where ....are....you????
Media.......where ....are....you????
Europe......where.....are....you????
ROPE A DOPES.
Anyone who can not see a connection is just blind
Quick & Dirty Listing of Connections:
Atta in Baghdad.
Atta meets w/Iraqi Spy in Czech Republic.
Iraqi Mukhabbarat Colonel at the 9/11 planning meeting in Jakarta.
What are the other easy gimmes?
beyond huge. don't wait for the NYT to report it.
it won't be a story unless Bush himself makes the case.
Will this even be mentioned in the mainstream media? When Tom Hamill at his homecoming in Macon, MS, praised Bush, the news stories left that out; when that Iraqi leader yesterday thanked the US, the networks made no mention of it, according to Brit Hume this evening.
Whatever happened to the paid turncoat?
I don't even see this story in the London Telegraph, from which Newsmax says it was reported. I hope Newsmax is not recycling old news from last December.

Mohammed Atta, the hijacker believed to be the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, was trained in Baghdad by Palestinian terrorist Abu Nidal, claims Iraq's coalition government.
so youre saying it may not be a genuine story?
No, I absolutely believe the story to be true. However, Newsmax says "newly appointed Iraq Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said Tuesday that a document purported to be from Saddam's intelligence service that places lead 9/11 hijacker Mohammed Atta in Baghdad two months before the attacks was indeed "genuine." I can't find the story on the London Telegraph where Allawi made this statement yesterday (i.e. Tuesday). I've been burned before by Newsmax so I'm looking for a direct link (recent) to point out as evidence to liberals.
You're right. So when will the CIC comment?
