I'm just curious as to how other Freeers feel about this movie. So far I feel Sellek and the rest have done a fine job, though I am not a WWII historian. Just curious on others feelings.

Boy the more things change the more they stay the same huh? The French then and now loved to sit and criticise while others pulled their chestnuts out of the fire. The scene with the King and Queen coming in and the smoking was funny.

Me too, half his nation is treacherously supporting the Germans and he's strutting around like the Allies are his reserves.

I was kinda curious as to if that was acurate, done for a comedic tention break, or a producers statement (though I'm not a smoker).

I'm watching. Good acting. Good filming.
I'm not a professor of History but I haven't seen anything wrong yet.
Selleck is one heck of a good actor.

Selleck is a conservative and this explains that the French were just as much a pain in the $#@ then as they are now.

I was ranting and raving so loudly about De Gaul and his arrogance that hubby got up and went into another room to watch alone on a smaller screen.

"Very good movie so far. Except for the French."Yep, great movie thus far...
But just when we thought we couldn't hate the Frogs anymore, there's the essential DeGaulle.

I'm in the mood to clobber De Gaulle! Yea, me too. And the real De Gaulle was probably more annoying (body odor).

From what I remember reading about De Gaul, this movie treated him kindly.

Selleck is good; but I think Eisenhower was a lot more antimated.

I don't know if the actual scene was true, but the characters'(King,Churchill,Ike) smoking and Monty being a non-smoker was true. Momty was finicky, almost ascetic.

Ooooohhh,he said "Crusaders", bring out the PC chattering classes to apologise to Islam everywhere(nevermind the "Crusade" being referred to was against the Axis),because he can't say "crusade" now, that's now a non-word,oh no! [/sarcasm]

I didn't see most of the movie (it's about to run again) but I think I'm seeing what appears to be some subtle commentary on our current times. The French and the use of the term "Crusaders" at the end. Can't wait to see the entire movie.
