I just signed on to my main AOL account.

Two people were on my "buddy list"....and I NEVER put them there! How can people put themselves on my buddy list?????

One was MaIslam and the other was Goddess something. I freaked and deleted them right away.

I don't have AOL. One of the problems I did have was with Yahoo and hotmail. There are settings in those IMs to ensure outside traffic doesn't have access to file sharing.

I use to find people adding themselves to my Yahoo list too.

REPORT IT to AOL even though you deleted the names.

Our kids (living elsewhere) and us both have AOL. Both of us have had our main password only accounts changed to no password needed and our mail controls changed to access by all (which freaked us out). You are not the only one with AOL issues here.
