I enjoyed the Left Behind series and the books are a very quick read. I have not yet read the most recent volume though. I know you'll enjoy the series, too!

Now, as far as nukes... Could a winch be used -- in a practical sense, I mean -- to transport a sizable nuke? I.e., consider this scenario: A winch hooked up to a Hummer, e.g., brings the nuke in from a small-town waterway that has NO air sniffers...then the nuke is transferred to a lead-lined vehicle or other carrier and parked out of the way somewhere in a lazy town until it is time to head for a specific target area. Possible or unlikely?

You remember correctly. That little experiment didn't work out, but I think it would be great if people used the backup board to post information onto for more permanent storage. I'll create a new section to post information to. I will get this done ASAP.

So in the end, what does Saddam get out of this?

Suppose, as has been suggested, we hand Saddam over to the Iraqis for trial and punishment. Who's to say the Iraqis wouldn't just release him and welcome Saddam back as the supreme savior from the evil occupiers?

OK, I have created a section on the backup board called "The Archives". Please feel free to use it to keep important data. For those of you that have not signed up for the backup board, freepmail me and I'll tell you how to get to it. (I can't check my freepmail at work, so I won't be able to answer mail until later tonight).

Typical union vandalism during a strike. We had similar problems at PacBell during the CWA strikes. The company will just extend the strike settlement date until the payroll savings covers the vandalism costs and the costs of any concessions in the new contract. Unions never seem to learn that they ALWAYS lose when they go on strike. Management will figure out how to run more efficiently while people are absent. Unnecessary union jobs will be phased out as a consequence of the lessons learned.

Did you report them?

At the least, they were pushing the fear factor.

And that makes them terrorists.

Nobody. This is more GB PC BS IMO. Saddam committed crimes against the US ALSO. We should be able to try him. I also heard we are shafting the Kurds now after all everything they did for us. There is a link on FR today. Check the news section.

Sounds like Russia is cementing all of their relations with MX, China, NK, etc for the eventuality that we are gone. And as PC and ignorant our government has been acting, I wouldn't doubt it if it was soon.

When we moved from Wellton to Golden Valley, we could have moved a refrig sized nuke with no trouble.

It would have been easy to bring it in from Mexico, 40 miles away, by car or even by plane (small) to the dopers landing strip, a mile or 2 from the house.

We moved stuff for 6 months, Bill came home every weekend and got a load. The only time we were stopped, was when we had trees in the trailer and couldn't convince the cop that we were not stealing desert plants. The Police in Wellton finally cleared us.

We moved the mobile home up here, it was packed full of stuff, a 12 X 44' mobile and even a 14 X 32' room that Bill
had built.

There could have been anything in them.

232 miles from Wellton to here. Another 40 to 50 miles to the Mexico border. Tons of dope and other things, even trucks and a tractor passed by our place in the desert and this was 27 years ago. The Nuke Refrig could still be out there in the old room.

I could have had a bldg and landed the plane in it for storage down there and indeed here also.

5 years ago, 2 streets over, someone built a small house and one of those fancy metal bldg that is huge. I have seen them drive by in an Antique car and hope that is what it is used for.

But it is on an acre in the middle of a subdivision and I don't know what is in it.

So hiding nukes and planes is simple, I could do it today, and with a little money, do it quickly.

People in Golden Valley are not friendly and we don't know what the neighbors are doing or even who they are. Most of them I wouldn't know if they knocked on the door.

You have consistently been among the computers hacked with each attack, haven't you?

I'd say that counts, unless it just happens every other day or so to you now.

Anybody else being hacked or attacked?

(of course I just thought of the fact that if your computer is down, you won't be able to respond, duh!)

N.Y. NUKE PLANT DRILL INCLUDES PLANE CRASH

By Jim Fitzgerald

The Associated Press
6/9/2004, 2:31 p.m. ET

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- For the first time, a fake terrorist attack was included in a drill of emergency plans at a nuclear power plant near New York City, with crews grappling with a pretend crash of a 767.

Yestersday's fake crash set off an ever-worsening cascade of simulated events for Indian Point plant operators and emergency responders. By the time the drill ended, a containment building was portrayed as filling with radioactive steam and portions of surrounding counties had been "evacuated" and residents advised to swallow anti-radiation pills. The actual residents, however, had no part in the drill.

Plant owner Entergy Nuclear Northeast and federal regulators have been criticized for not taking terror into account in emergency planning since the World Trade Center attack, 40 miles to the south in lower Manhattan. At the site are the mothballed Indian Point 1 plant and the active Indian Point 2 and 3 plants.

The critics were not assuaged by Tuesday's drill. The scenario did not include a simulated release of radiation into the atmosphere — an omission that "speaks to the farcical nature of this exercise," said Kyle Rabin, of Riverkeeper, one of the organizations in the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition.

"We want to know if the public can be protected from a release of radiation," he said.

He also criticized as "unbelievable" the announcement that there were no traffic control problems during the simulated evacuations.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will evaluate the exercise at a public meeting on Thursday.

The drill began with word that a group of men had been stopped on a Connecticut highway in a car laden with weapons and documents pointing to an attack on Indian Point. Then the North American Aerospace Defense Command alerted the NRC that a 767 cargo jet seemed to be heading for Indian Point.

The "crash" wiped out offsite power to the reactor as it was being shut down. Backup generators failed and a leak of reactor coolant raised the specter of a meltdown.

A fake general emergency was declared, and Westchester County ordered the evacuation and advised those who have potassium iodide to "swallow one dose now." Potassium iodide is meant to inhibit the effect of radiation on the human thyroid.

The scenario of the crash included no damage to the reactor's concrete containment building. Brian Holian, of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, said recent studies showed "most plane crashes into containment buildings would not result in significant releases of radiation."

Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano, who has called for a shutdown of the Indian Point plants, took part in the drill but "still feels the evacuation wouldn't work in a fast-breaking scenario of radiation escaping," said his chief adviser, Susan Tolchin.

A group of about 30 protesters, some in make-believe moon suits, were kept behind barricades outside the airport conference room where reporters — real ones and simulated ones — received intermittent briefings on the drill. One demonstrator carried a sign that said, "Westchester's A-Glow, Where Do We Go?"
