LOS ANGELES (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union is demanding the removal of a tiny cross that is among historic symbols on Los Angeles County's official seal. The seal "prominently depicts a Latin cross, a sectarian religious symbol that represents the beliefs of one segment of the county's diverse population" and is an "impermissible endorsement of Christianity" by the county government, the ACLU Foundation of Southern California said in a letter to county officials this week. "Under clearly established law, the seal is unconstitutional," the letter said, warning that refusal to remove the cross in a "reasonable time-frame" would cause the ACLU to seek a court order.

speaking of the Liberty Bell:
"And ye shall make hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof; it shall be a jubilee."
This inscription, cast into the Liberty Bell in August 1752, is an excerpt from Leviticus 25:10.
I didn't remember that!
THANKS! The grandest Jubalee of all is increasingly near!
If we can just make it between now and then!
By His Grace, Spirit and Power alone!
Give them time...ACLU will trample on everything as they gather momentum...IF WE LET THEM!
OH and the school's with Islam is a nightmare coming to your schools soon, IF WE LET THEM!
WHERE ARE OUR OBJECTIONS, OUR MARCHES, OUR LAWSUITS, OUR PROTESTS....is it only on FreeRepublic where our own kind hear it and nothing else gets done?
Remove a cross from a town seal today, tomorrow file a suit to do so for ALL local seals in a state (hey, there's already legal precedent), then in all states. Must be right 'cause a judge said it was.
Then enlarge the "public square" to include that which can be seen or heard from public property (say a cross on a church, or the name Jesus from a church display). All so one token atheist won't be offended? Ha! It goes a little deeper than that, folks.
Think the Bible can't be outlawed in America? Think it won't ever be considered "hate speech"? Think again. Certain religions will be tolerated more than others by a fascist state.
Under the guise of separation of church and state, or political correctness, or not offending atheists, or homesexual civil rights, there are lots of groups that would like nothing better than to make it illegal to practice that religion of hate - Christianity.
Wait 'till the ACLU figures out what "Sacramento" means.
RD
You can petition your state legislature to try to get them to apportion the EV's by congressional district (like Maine) or proportionally. It probably wouldn't happen, but unless it's written into the CA constitution, it only takes a majority vote of the legislature and the signature of the governator.
I'm waiting for the Anti-Christian Litigation Unit to sue to have the name of the city changed to "Las Putas"; i.e. "The Whores".
Used to be. However the squeaky wheel gets the oil, and minorities and special interest have a lot of lobbies in Sacramento (other capitols all over), and Washington DC pushing for their rights. The every day worker in this country is not represented. We just pay our taxes, and are expected to ignore it.
Now that is a good one.
ACLU-the enemy within!
No Way......That cross belongs to the American Taxpayers; not the ACLU.
AMEN....and I VOTE as a California resident to have it ENLARGED!!!!!!!!!
I SECOND THAT MOTION!
Response: Not strange but terrible. The only question is when?
"ACLU= Anti-Christ Lawyers Union"
GOOD NAME
<< Isn't this nation based on MAJORITY RULE? >>
No.
Absolutely not!
Our beloved FRaternal Republic is a Constitutional Republic and by strict adherence to its Founding Law avoids the tyranny of the majority.
AKA Mob Rule.
