My husband gives Dubya's speech a grade of B-. It was a challenge to Iraq as it was to inform Americans. I give it a B or B-... was hoping for some really big "new" news I guess... a surprise of some sort.

I agree. The President's remarks were REMARKABLE. It's the best I have seen him for a while. He was really on his game tonight. Fantastic speech. I can't wait for the other six. Having one a week upto June 30 is brilliant. He's using the 'bully pulpit' with a vengeance. If this is the way his campaign is going to be run from now on, then landslide will be a definite possibility.

I could get anywhere on the net--except FR. Sounds like a denial of service attack to me.

Why would Bush address military operations to our enemies?

Actually he did - he practically boasted about how we "could have" kicked ass in Fallujah, but we didn't want to offend the locals. So we go lightly and watch our soldiers and civiliand get hung from bridges. Bush still doesn't get the true nature of the enemy and of Islam.

"It is time for the women of America to stand up now and assume the responsibility one more time and clean up the mess that these men have made," Richards said.

Yeah! That's the attitude! Now....who's gonna step up to the plate and wear the FIRST American burka?

Idiots.

Are we still going to react automatically (in the post-handover era in Iraq)?

DYE: Yes, but the difference is, we're still going to react automatically but right at our shoulder is going to be an Iraqi, and he's going to react automatically too.

A very good speech, and a very different one than I expected. Confident albeit subdued, straightforward, and unapologetic.

I didn't make any pre-speech comments on your thread, but I read all posts. I have to admit that I was pessimistic prior to the speech, thinking it was a no-win situation -- what could he say? But I was pleasantly surprised. I was particularly glad to see the President "put the ball back in the court" of the terrorists, by reciting the recent atrocities. He didn't exactly say that our prison indiscretions paled in comparison to the terrorists' actions, but the message came through loud and clear.

His emphasis on the role the Iraqi people must take -- it is, after all, their country -- was appropriate and well-stated.

Tough, tough situation. No way this was going to be a "feel good" speech. But under the circumstances, very well done, indeed.

"David Gergen as " leading Republicans?
"Huh? Wasn't he a "special advisor" to Clinton for a while?"

That's how one of the cables referred to him this afternoon-when he pretrashed the President's speech.

Joe "I never met a camera I didn't like" Biden on
and is histerical. He doesn't even take abreath.

The president is picking up the pieces from Biden and
his bunch that let the terrorist run amuck during the 90s.

He should just shut up and think of America first not
the democrats first.

I give him slack because there are 5 more to go. We'll see what the sum total is after the 6 are given. He shouldn't shoot his load all at once. He should build on it with more information each week. He has to make sure that people aren't hearing the same speech every week. I wanted more information. I think Biden made perfectly good points. Bush should address those things by the end of the 6.

Fred needs to get a grip. The responsibility for the security of these areas is being gradually given to the Iraqis. Ultimately it will all be in their hands.

I cannot stand Cici! She defends the RATS no matter what they say or do. She disgusts me. First the story was that the President had no plan...now they hate the plan. They can all kiss my butt.

Peter King thought it was very good and will go over well in the House.

I'm sorry you were disappointed. I liked it very much.

"New"? I wasn't really looking for anything new. More like a reminder of our mission and a status report, so to speak.

I think with the media and dems naysaying and hyping of negative news, we required a calm authoritative message of what we're doing and why and that's how we in this house heard it.
