A personal note from Herman Cain
Herman Cain For US Senate Campaign Letter | 5/17/2004 | Herman Cain

Posted on 05/17/2004 6:45:21 PM PDT by NewLand

Dear fellow Georgians,

This past Saturday morning I was honored to address the Georgia GOP State Convention in Columbus. The energy and excitement that was felt at the convention is proof that Georgians are ready to believe in the promise of a better America.

The United States is being challenged by the war on terror, the war on our moral foundation and the war on our economic infrastructure. But America is still the greatest country in the world because of the bold leadership of the past and the American Dream that is still alive today.

In 1994 we had a vision for a better America and a desire to "restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives." Ten years later the Republican Revolution that was started right here in Georgia has stalled because too many members of Congress, like my opponent Rep. Isakson, are more concerned with positionship rather than leadership.

I am the only candidate for the U.S. Senate with the bold leadership and passion for change. I have been working on replacing the federal tax code for 10 years and am the only candidate who has the depth of understanding to provide the necessary leadership in the U.S. Senate to make it happen. I am also firm in my belief that life begins at conception and will do everything I can to protect the lives of the unborn.

As I told the GOP delegates at the State Convention, “If you want someone who will show up and vote and not rock the boat, that's Rep. Isakson. If you want someone who will rock the boat then drive the boat, I’m your man.”

July 20th offers the opportunity to bring bold new leadership that will transform the way the United States Senate works.

Under my “Contract with Georgia,” I will restart the Republican Revolution that pledged "the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money."

On the first day of the 109th Congress, I will immediately begin working on the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

FIRST, Shut down the IRS and replace it with the Fair Tax;
SECOND, Implement mandatory spending caps on all discretionary spending to balance the federal budget;
THIRD, Protect life which begins at conception;
FOURTH, Restructure Social Security so that we continue to provide for our Nation's seniors that are approaching retirement age, but allow for younger taxpayers to invest a portion of their Social Security taxes in personal retirement accounts;
FIFTH, Further delay BRAC so that we can focus on winning the war on terrorism and determine how each military base can better continue the fight to defend America;
SIXTH, Totally restructure how Medicare is being delivered in order to achieve greater heath care affordability and accessibility for all Americans;
SEVENTH, Fight to protect the definition of marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman;
EIGHTH, Fight to end the Cloture Rule in the United States Senate so that President George W. Bush's conservative judges can be confirmed;
NINTH, Fight to protect our Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms;
TENTH, Ensure that our Religious Liberties are not compromised.

It is time to bring back the ideas born under the Republican Revolution. People need to be shown that government is not the answer, government is the problem. We need to remind America that the Republican party stands for fiscal conservatism, strong moral values and commitment to pushing our Nation forward. This is a new time, a new day and this is the dawn of a new Republican Party. This is just the beginning. It is morning again here in Georgia.

"You also didn't do any research before you shot off your mouth. "

You're correct, I didn't. I'm relying upon my memory from being in that industry at the time. As I recall, Cain was president of Godfather's when it was owned by a major flour company (Pillsbury or General Mills).

He took it to the point of bankruptcy and then engineered an employee buyout, stripping it of most of it's assets to leverage the buyout.

Godfather's was one of the top national chains when Cain became its president and now it is almost nonexistent.

Do your own research if you don't believe me.

In the last quarter Cain has brought in as much dollars in campaign donations as Isakson. Grassroots are Cain. The Cain Train is gaining fast. When this goes to a run off with Isakson and Cain, the conservative voters of Collins and Cain will unite and also this race gets national attention. At that point, all bets are off. Herman Cain, U.S. Senator!

Why has Isakson stopped releasing those monthly polls? Why is Isakson attacking Cain in his new tv commmercials? *GRIN*

OK bayourod,
I have done the research. I found no one who remembers it the way you do.
---------------------------

Herman Cain, president, Godfather's

Calling it "the biggest challenge I have ever taken on in my entire career,' Herman Cain, 40, grabbed an offer by Pillsbury to take the helm of Godfather's Pizza. Declining sales and a deteriorating franchise system, coupled with the fact that Cain had never before even stepped foot in a Godfather's restaurant, all help to underscore the challenge he's faced with.

"Normally people don't accept jobs without having first set foot in the place, and normally people don't accept jobs in a city they've never been to in their life,' says Cain. But three factors overshadowed Cain's doubts, prompting him to accept the offer. "I thought about the confidence implied in me by Jeff Campbell (chairman and chief executive officer of Bu...

Cain, a corporate VP with Pillsbury, left to climb a nine-month ladder from Burger King dishwasher to its Philadelphia regional VP transforming that poorly performing business. Then he helped buy Godfather's Pizza, the fifth largest pizza chain. Cain's political organizing in the NRA is described.

Although African Americans were prevalent in the food service and catering industries century and a half ago, many blacks reserve a disdain for the trade today, seeing it as a throwback to a time when all they were sanctioned to do was serve. Not Herman Cain, who this May completes his yearlong presidency of the National Restaurant Association (NRA). He is here to testify that food service can be as creative and enterprising a road as any for blacks seeking the top of the food chain. ...

According to these reports, if I add your slant to them I get this picture.

Herman Cain, corporate VP at Pillsbury, left that position (how he ever got there is still a mystery given his ineptitude), and took a job as a burger flipper in the worst area of the Burger King division of Pillsbury. He apparently did such a poor job at Burger King in Philadelphia that they had no choice but to make him the regional VP of Burger King.

Then to top it all off he was such a flop that they offered him a lowly position as the head of Godfather's Pizza. According to your account it was apparently a flourishing business, but Herman Cain drove them to the brink of bankruptcy, then instigated a buy out and stripped the company before selling it.

The problem is that I can't find any record of this abysmal showing. All I can find are the glowing reports of how he'd had such a stellar career, and was doing such a good job at Godfather's Pizza, that the National Restaurant Association sought him out to become their first black president.

Obviously my research ability is far inferior to your memory. Maybe you could help me document your scenario of the failures of Herman Cain.

That's a very common position [Shut down the IRS and replace it with the Fair Tax] for non-incumbant Republican candidates to take in contested primaries.

Once again, can we see your list of Senate candidates who have taken this exact position on the IRS and the Fair Tax? I'm not interested in rhetorical answers. Be specific or stay away. You made the statement, now you have to back it up.

While you're researching, let's get to #2 on Cain's list:
SECOND, Implement mandatory spending caps on all discretionary spending to balance the federal budget;

Provide list of current Senators or Senate candidates who have this exact position and are proactively making this a priority of their campaign.

I'm not interested in your Godfathers Pizza stories. Stick to this topic and tell us the facts. I'm sure we are all interested to support other candidates with these positions.

When Cain leveraged an employee buyout of Godfathers 20 years ago it had 570 restaurants and was the fifth largest pizza chain in America. Today it's 12th with only 352 units. "Profitability" is a term of art, as we learned from Enron.

That sounds very encouraging to me. You're right that Herman's nomination by the Republicans will really attract attention, and I think HC can make very good use of it for the GOP and for the Fair Tax.

I still can't figure out why the National Restaurant Association would pick such a failure to be president. They must not have done their research as well as you did. Uh . . . Where did you say your documentation was from?

"What is he saying that's different from most Republican candidates?"

Shut down the IRS - "That's a very common position for non-incumbant Republican candidates to take in contested primaries."

Still waiting for your list of Republican Senate candidates who feature the same positions as Cain. I gave you 2 specific examples on how he is different, in answer to your statements.

Some advise; if you can't back up your charges, just say so. You don't want anyone to accuse you of operating like a liberal, would you?
