In front of crowd of more than 300 people on the brink of eruption, Orland Park's first mosque cleared its second-to-last hurdle Wednesday night.
After a 3-to-0 vote, it now heads for consideration by the full village board June 21.
The overflow crowd laid their emotions and motivations bare.
About a half-hour into the two-hour meeting, some men in the crowd scuffled after one man screamed "September 11."
Police escorted that man out of the building, though police at the scene said there is no ongoing investigation into the incident.
The exchange was one of the more emotionally charged moments of an emotionally charged night.
Opponents of the mosque, who made up about two-thirds of the crowd, repeatedly said they feared Islamic extremists would bring violence to the community.
"Please do not use our U.S. Constitution and our freedoms against us," protester Arlene Reed said. "Don't tell me to embrace the enemy, bring the asp to my chest, tell me I have to welcome a group here that makes me feel unsafe."
Muslim backers of the mosque said they were disappointed they are not being accepted in the community many of them have called home for years.
"We can work here, pay taxes here, go to school here, shop here, but we cannot pray here," Edward Hassan said. "We are your neighbors, your doctors, your soccer coaches. It truly is a sad day for America and for the Constitution."
Sean Kennedy, 22, said he was disgusted by the community's response to the mosque proposal.
"The stigma I'm worried about is not that some Muslims will come to my community," he said. "I welcome them with open arms. The stigma I'm worried about is that Orland Park will be seen as racist and bigoted. That this (mosque) is an issue is an embarrassment to me as a citizen of Orland Park."
The three village trustees who sit on the planning committee that approved the proposal Wednesday said they were shocked at the tenor of the meeting.
"The undercurrents here are frankly embarrassing and disheartening to me," committee chairman Brad O'Halloran said.
Despite the meeting's heated rhetoric, resident Peg DeWilkins said she had been won over by the mosque backers.
"I came here out of fear," she said. "But as I realize tonight listening to all these people ... it's clear the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. I fear the hatred and evil that gets perpetrated in these situations."
Plans for the 22,000-square-foot Orland Park Prayer Center were approved by the plan commission May 11 despite protests of more than 150 people.
Many of the initial protesters complained about possible traffic problems caused by the mosque, though Cook County's top traffic engineer later dismissed the effect the extra 100 to 150 cars could have during Friday afternoon prayers.
Mosque backers have since conducted a traffic study that supports their contention that the mosque will not put undue strain on local roads.
A property value study paid for by mosque supporters also concluded the value of nearby homes would not be adversely affected.

How do I do it . . . let me think . . .
I think first, I click on the LATEST ALL THREADS list.
Then I click on the MY COMMENTS because that takes a long time to load.
Then I click on MY MAIL
Then I read FREEPMAIL because usually my comments is still loading--I have it set on full messages so it takes a while to load even on DSL speed.
Then, if I haven't had a message from the THREAT MATRIX, i'll click on that shortcut or on a message in one of the other listings.
I'll usually read the MY COMMENTS messages to me and then TRY AND get caught up on the TM or at least the last section or two.
i THINK one thing that does is get me to the personal messages fairly quickly and gets them responded to fairly quickly.
Then, I'll probably click back and forth amongs all of those FR listings and threads every 15 minutes or so.
Nothing obsessive about FR about me!!!! LOL!

Just so everyone here hears this first...I just posted the following on my website...
In light of the current threat situation in the United States, I have decided to address it in a different manner. For the next week or so, I will be posting the actual threats that have been found and submitted to U.S. Federal Intelligence Agencies. I believe that the threat status in the United States is being downplayed, that the threat level should be raised and continue to be raised through the end of the year, and that the US government needs to do a massive public service campaign alerting all US citizens as to the steps that should be taken in the event of the use of weapons of mass destruction on its citizens.
What is very important to remember is that Al Qaeda and its terrorist network are extremely patient and do the planning for their attacks, sometimes years in advance. Part of their belief is that they must give warning before they strike. They also believe that dying as a martyr in the name of Allah will give them everlasting life in the after-world. Whatever their plans are, extensive training has been done throughout the world in their terrorist training camps. The extensive teaching on every conceivable manner to kill another human being, either just one individual, or a mass population has been done in those training camps, or via the internet.
We must not underestimate the Jihadi's. It has been said loud and clear that a strike against the United States will NOT be averted by the arrest or capture of Osama bin Laden or his key operatives. The momentum gained by these terrorists has allowed them to penetrate over 60 countries, and have followers and members of all nationalities, speaking all different languages, with a large number being well educated and holding professional positions, in all of those countries.
While there are several different terrorist organizations , Al Qaeda is widely respected worldwide, and in fact most other terrorist groups are actually spin offs of them, and still affiliated with them, either formally, or financially.
Up to this point in time, I have always held some things back from being posted that have been submitted to the Feds. However, no more! It is not my intention to spread doom and gloom. It is however, my intention to let everyone that visits my site know what the hell is going on. What I am going to post here from the forums will frighten most, and definitely make alot of Americans very mad.
Unless the bureaucratic B.S. stops within the intelligence community, and unless they stop worrying about whose toes are being stepped on, more lives will be lost. My dealings with the various federal agencies in submitting the threats , will also be told in the coming days. It will shock and disgust many of you.
To date, I personally have submitted over 800 posts from the Arabic forums. Over 80% of those were terrorist threats having to do with the possibility of a loss of human life. Terrorist handbooks of various training tools or methods have been submitted, as well as info to preserve the lives of our military in foreign countries, as well as their citizens. Additionally, more than 150 suspected terrorist bank account numbers have been passed along.
I must give credit to a few that have contributed to these submissions during the past two+ years, particularly Casey and Al Qaeda Hunter from the ItsHappening.com forum (the Alneda section). These two have taught me much and are relentless in their dedication to saving lives by helping to avert a terrorist attack.
Additionally, some credit needs to go to a group of intelligence gatherers, who came to be through their postings at ItsHappening.com....7 Seas Global Intelligence.
Please be prepared, and prepare your families. WE are in for a bumpy ride. Only through the grace of God is this going to get any better!

My sketchy knowledge of this comes from a poster on another forum who I have been following for years. He lives in White Rock, B.C., and at one time was a member of a B.C. provincial government (or the head of a B.C. political party -- I can't remember which). Phosgene. Phosgene is a choking agent. When released into the air as a gas, it forms a white cloud and smells like newly mown hay or green corn. If inhaled at high concentrations long enough, it causes severe breathing problems and fatal lung congestion. Like chlorine, there's no antidote, but survival is possible with quick treatment.

Now I remember this was the brown pellet story that was on this bus in Vancouver. There are media reports about it.Of course they wrote it off as not terrorism.
