It's fun.

But the half game of Chinese chess is more fun. Both Western and Chinese chess derived from a game in India long ago.

The half game is played on a board 4 squares by 8 squares. The pieces are turned upside down--they are smaller than checkers and a bit thicker with Chinese characters on them for General, Lt General, Elephant, Car/cart, horse, canon and soldiers (2 each eacept for 1 top general and 5 soldiers.)

They are turned upside down and randomized, mixed all up. Then placed randomnly on the squares. etc. etc. etc.

I love it.

But mostly, for me, it's a good way to build relationships.

A Correction

With regard to the information contained in the Yahoo News report posted on
the ProMED website (see: Ebola, lab accident death - Russia (Siberia) (02)
20040525.1402), there is one significant error concerning the referral of
information to Russian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation
(WHO).

The report states that: "She [Natalia Skultetskaya, Press Secretary for the
Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology] said the case
was reported immediately to both the Russian Health Ministry and the WHO".

In fact, we kept the Russian Ministry of Health informed about the
development of the situation daily from the day of the accident. And we had
hoped that the disease would not develop. WHO was informed on Mon 17 May
2004 after confirmation of the diagnosis.

I apologize for this mistake which is, probably, the result of
misinterpretation or mistaken translation of the information I presented.

Not only did Vector not report the "accident" immediately to WHO (apparently part of protocol in biolabs), but they refused to state who funds the program. Judith Miller found out - she says it's a TX-based company, though the funding is for the whole lab, not particularly that program.
