Explosives Found Near Site of Nato Conference

Police found two bags of explosives in the centre of the Slovak capital Bratislava today – 24 hours ahead of a Nato Parliamentary Assembly meeting attended by hundreds of MPs.

Police acting on tips found the plastic bags under a rubbish bin, Interior Ministry spokesman Boris Azaltovic said. The explosives in one bag were of Czech origin, while the other contained plastic explosives likely made in former Yugoslavia.

The bags, which also contained charges to ignite the explosives, were found on a street near the venue of the Nato meeting, Azaltovic said.

The plastic explosives would not have been able to explode, Azaltovic said, but he refused to specify whether the pound of Czech explosives in the other bag could have caused a blast.

He also refused to say whether the find could be linked to the Nato meeting, but added that police have the security situation under control.

About 1,000 police officers will be patrolling Bratislava tomorrow when the five-day Nato meeting starts.

More than 300 legislators from North America and Europe are to take part in the assembly, which will focus on issues such as post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the war against terrorism.

Slovakia joined Nato earlier this year along with six other countries.

I was responding to olde north church's post #3431.

I think had we not experienced the WTC collapsing live on TV, the Pentagon in flames and the smoking Hole of Heroes that was Flight 93, the møøselimbs would continue their program of petty terror.

Saddam and Qaddafi and who knows else would quietly continue developing WMDs unmolested.

The tipping point would pass and the long slide into dark side of the moon would be inevitable.

We - Western civilization - would lose before we fully understood the battle was joined.

As it was their thirst tipped their hand and woke up enough of us in time to stop them. Maybe.

One last reason that June 8 causes concern:

June 8, 570 A.D. - Religion of Islam founded in Mecca.
June 8, 632 A.D. - Mohammed, prophet of Islam (Koran) dies, according to tradition

June 8-10 - G-8 Summit in Georgia

June 8, 1925 - Barbara Bush's birthday.

I hope it isn't going to be as long a day as it looks like.

Oh they know it's him... the "man" he represented. That was one of the first things I heard them report as a possible reason Mayfield was arrested... But the funny thing was, it was NEVER mentioned again after the possible link to Madrid.

Yep those are good reasons for concern.

The G-8 is the one that worries me the most.

Didn't mean to imply that those other dates were "safe" by any means, just was pointing out the way they move on the calendar.

Nothing pops out regarding constellations and the DEBKA map. On another note, Venus is almost as big as earth... 7575 miles across while earth is 7926. A year on Venus is 225 earth days.

Oh not at all. I never understand :lunar calendar: dates, so I appreciated the explanation!! G-8 and the Nato summit scare me the most.

Remember when we heard Turkey uncovered a plot to attack the summit, and captured the perps along with weapons? What a relief, right? "Turkey's on top of things," we thought! Turns out the CIA, our incompetent, ineffective CIA gave them (Turkey) the head's up! They either had no idea, or didn't care to look.

Bomb squad kept busy

Eric Williamson

Savannah Morning News

....

It was the second suspicious package to attract bomb squad attention in two days.

....

After the robot scrutinized that package, police opened the box and found a new pair of women's shoes.

Pierce said he doesn't think the calls are the result of any G-8 hysteria, but rather astute observations by residents noticing something out of place who would rather err on the side of caution.

Does anyone really think this was an accident?

Russian Scientist Dies in Ebola Accident at Former Weapons Lab

New York Times, By JUDITH MILLER,

Published: May 25, 2004, NEW ORLEANS, May 24 2004

A Russian scientist has died after accidentally infecting herself with Ebola virus. The scientist, Antonina Presnyakova, was working on a vaccine against the virus at the Department of Dangerous viral Pathogens of the Molecular Biology Scientific Research Institute which was part of the Soviet-era State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology, known as Vector. The laboratory was being funded by Texas-based Antibody Systems and was not part of the organization receiving US government funds. The accident occurred on 5 May 2004, but was not reported to the World Health Organization until the victim had died.

Here's some background on the microbiologist and how she handled these viruses at this Vector place in Siberia, known as either a strategic defense enterprise or Department of Dangerous viral Pathogens of the Molecular Biology Scientific Research Institute:

A Smallpox Case is more dangerous than a Boeing

Researchers of the Laboratory wear these rubber suits during their work for four hours together. Sometimes they chase monkeys who have escaped a syringe. Senior research assistant Antonina Presnyakova got on the suit quickly and handily, in a soldier-like manner. She looked like Dunno on the Moon. At the beginning of the way to the working room, a worker breathes through a gas mask. When he passes airlocks, an air pipe is attached. Each "cosmonaut" hauls a special pipe through which the air is supplied. Ventilation is the most important safety feature. All measures are taken so that in emergency each worker could urgently eliminate its workplace. All liquid waste is sterilized in autoclaves. Solid waste is treated with alkali solution and incinerated in a remote "crematorium". (We came to have a look—it resembled a common shed).

How does someone wearing a rubber suit accidentally stick themselves with an Ebola-laden needle?

From your stolen container ship link.....

Michele Peveril, spokesperson for the Halifax Port Authority, acknowledged that the agency can't do anything to prevent similar thefts in the future until police determine how the container was stolen. ~~~DUH~~~

She said containers have to go through several security checkpoints to be allowed to leave a terminal.

"This is an issue that the police need the time to look into and address because this is the sort of thing the Port of Halifax can't have happen," she said.

Farah Mohamed, a spokeswoman for Anne McLellan, the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, declined comment on the matter yesterday

This story just came out yesterday or the day before . . .

The phrase suggests a double meaning. But DC and NYC remain the two more obvious targets.
