Clunky epic. Running time: 163 minutes. Rated R (violence, brief gore). At the Empire, the Lincoln Square, the Kips Bay, others.
IT'S perhaps unfair to expect contemporary Hollywood moviemakers to do justice to Homer's "Iliad" or the legends of the Trojan War that have inspired artists and writers through the centuries.

As I wrote on another thread, the sole purpose of this movie is to please Putz er Pitt's Gay Audience......He said after this movie men would be wearing skirts......yeah, GAY men.....
Hollywood treats Homer as just another contract script writer.
The movie sounds like the pitts....
Hollywood's protrayal of anything historic is nothing short of an abomination. If you want an accurate depiction of history, read a book. ( You have to careful and selective with those too).
You forgot to post the best part. One and a half stars. Maybe that will take Bush off of Brad's mind for a while.
Yet ANOTHER movie I was looking forward to, blasted in reviews. The only thing left to look forward to is Prisoner of Azkaban.
The Odyssey version with Armand Assante as Odysseus was fairly decent entertainment.
"But, more Steve Reeves than Russell Crowe"
I think the reverse would be just as bad.
"Who are you?"
"I am......gladiator."
Pu-leeeeze.
Spiderman II looks good and so does Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
Pitts only claim to fame is his wife. Whoever said he could act?
It has Pitt in it. I dismissed it right away.
Stay Safe !
Brad Pitt in a dress? Can it get any gayer?
I thought the Odyssey was a lousy movie too.
The best solution is to read the books. I would recommend The Odyssey (translation by Robert Fitzgerald) first, as being the most fun. I read it aloud to my kids when they were 10 and 12 and they really loved it. Then The Iliad, which is somewhat less accessible for moderns. And by all means The Aeneid, in the Alan Mandelbaum translation.
Maybe someone like Mel Gibson could make a decent Iliad, but the usual Hollywood directors are completely hopeless. The left haven't the slightest idea what honor is, as this review points out.
"Homoeroticism" is the new "don't got there", "yadda yadda", "gravitas" tag line, that people who think they are hip or ahead of the curve can't seem to put down.
