As a Muslim, i strongly condemn the beheading of Nick Berg

As an American [applied for citizenship here from Iran since 1999], and a Muslim i would like to strongly condemn the brutal beheading of a fellow American in the hands of Barbarians.

I also, condemn Islamic terrorism across the world and join millions of others in Iran and i'm sure other places across the middle east in condemning these horrible acts.

I moved here in 2000, i was a part of the student uprisings in 1999 in Iran. The very thing that the US is fighting right now in the middle east, are what students in Iran are fighting.

There is no difference between their fight and ours, nor the fight across the middle east between the modernized - moderate form of islam and the radical form.

Unfortunately, moderates have been unwilling to take arms or act aggressively against radical islam and when we have we've been condemned for human rights abuses.

That's all.. after reading some of the posts on here i just wanted to say i'm Muslim and i condemn these acts.

Christians aren't doing what the Catholic Church did in 600 A.D., so why are certain Muslims following what Muslims did in 600 A.D.?

Because what the Catholic church did in 600AD was against the teachings of Christianity as given in God's Holy Bible. While what certain Muslims are still doing today is in line with the Koran, Hadith and the example of Mohammed.

However, I would like to thank you for posting your original comments and am glad you have spoken out against Nick Berg's barbaric murder.

Kind of reminds me of the Alamo. Oddly enough some of the DEFENDERS at the Alamo were Hispanic. There were quite a few Hispanics in the army that defeated Santa Anna.

One Hispanic officer in that army became one of Texas's first U.S. Senators or Congressmen, I can't remember which. Eventually he ended up migrating to Mexico to get away from the mistreatment and death threats. Seems the rising anti-Mexican sentiment in Texas including those Hispanics who had honorably fought and died to win freedom for Texas. Oddly enough, they did get to enjoy those freedoms.

Our most decorated unit in Europe during WWII was an all Japanese American unit, volunteers to the man even though many of them had family in the camps. Highly decorated and often spit at and called Japs by their fellow countrymen.

It's easy to get caught up in the emotion of the event, it's more difficult to separate the emotion from the reality.

You brought up a VERY good point. There's only so long you can resist change while living in a technological society. Sooner or later, more and more reach the break point.

The Amish are now struggling between their insularism and the human need to grow and change. While still numerous, they're dwindling. And not all of those who stay are meant to be Amish. One day, I'll tell you about Melvin.

Mennonites were early attempts at "growth" for lack of a better word. It's a bad analogy, because now the Mennonite Church is part of the WCC. Hubby's uncle, a deacon, has even been to Cuba to hug the bloody dictator. Bully for him. However, they still retain that complacent, I'm-better-than-everyone-because-I-know-the-REAL-truth aspect of Amishness and it's magnified due to their re-EURO-ification...an attitude I find disgusting.

Islam does need to grow, abolish pan Arabism and allow the people of various countries to find their own cultural identity. The Wahabists fight against that.

I can't either. Last year I got interested in the Alamo and read just about everything I could find on it.

I was amazed at how quickly those heros became second class citizens, even to the point of having to escape to Mexico of all places, simply because of their race.

You read the letters from out troops or talk to the ones returning, the ones who are fighting and dying over there, and they almost universally have very positive things to say about the average Iraqi. Oh well, what do they know.

Thanks for your thoughts -- your comments are very well stated.

Emotions have their place in war, especially among the soldiers who need to do the fighting and the people at home who need to support their troops. I think we both know that.

But emotions also need to be tempered by perspective, and a willingness to forgive those who trespass against us when the time is right (i.e. after our enemies have been thoroughly beaten).
