A few seconds after Nick Berg is pushed over and the knife put to his neck the clock skips from 2:44:12 to 2:45:47 during the throat cutting. 1:35 of clumsy hacking and screaming were edited out. Islam requires a sharp knife and quick kill but this was not.

The sound runs 5 to 7 seconds ahead of the video. That is why the yelling starts before anyone moves. The reader audibly clears his throat at 2:42:32 but covers his mouth at 2:42:38.

I can't believe all you people are watching this video. Once you know that Mr. Berg was beheaded by terrorists, why is it necessary to actually witness the deed being done?

Because the media refuses to acknowledge just how horrible it was. Some say it was a "quick" beheading. We have uncovered here that it took over 2 minutes. Then I noticed that there is a problem with one of the clock/timers in one of the cameras they used (it seems they used two cameras). Sometimes, you can find things out in the details.

Our society has been one of gentle minded shopkeepers and farmers for many decades. With the lone exceptions of of our Civil War and those in the middle of the 20th century, most have never been in battle or experienced the harsh realities of the fate which many of us face should be become conquered. Liberals and utopians will cry "by watching this you desensitize yourself and become in a small way more barbaric." I counter this by saying that this is precisely the sort of psychological preparation which our bourgeoisified, softened multitudes need in preparation for the challenges we face. Unorthodox and inelegant to be sure. However we lack the luxury of going through all the proper steps to develop the sort of knightly protective strata which will be needed if the West is to survive.

The reasons each of us watched the video were our own unique reasons. Mine different from others.

I wanted to harden my heart for the things I believe will be happening here in this country at some point in time. I spoke to my husband last night about this. We should finish this war any way that is required for our victory so that our children and their children will never have to battle like this. If we do no play hard ball, this battle will go on for decades to come and will eventually be on our soil. Is that what you want? If it comes to our soil, it will not be the military that is fighting but will be you and I. Will you surrender to them?

As for me, I'd take as many out with me as I could.

I’m looking at it to find out how Nick, who had a crew cut, and light eyebrows, and a stocky build, and muscular arms. Wondering why at the time of his beheading, has the following dark hair, dark eyebrows, and beard and also has lost a lot of weight.

I've wondered how many women here @ FR would view the video. I viewed it myself yesterday and for the same basic reason. I too wanted to harden my heart. Time may not heal all wounds, but it does soften the impact or at least the memory of the impact. In such a few short years the memory of what happened on 9/11 has been softened. I knew I needed to be reminded of the brutality by these people. It was horrible to watch...it made me ill, not to mention the tears. But it strengthened my resolved to support Pres. Bush and his efforts. I've always supported the troops, but I was starting to question his methods...I won't do that again. As far as the battle being on our soil, I believe it's here already and it's just a matter of time before it's full-blown IF we can't contain & suppress these people.

To no one in particular: I can't imagine how anyone watched this video, edited or not, and come away thinking this was a clean/quick kill. It appeared to me that the blade was dull and they were "sawing" rather than a quick slice. I thought it was horrific and sadistic. Any news agency that reported it as being quick either didn't watch the video or just plain lied.
