I've wondered how many women here @ FR would view the video. I viewed it myself yesterday and for the same basic reason. I too wanted to harden my heart. Time may not heal all wounds, but it does soften the impact or at least the memory of the impact. In such a few short years the memory of what happened on 9/11 has been softened. I knew I needed to be reminded of the brutality by these people. It was horrible to watch...it made me ill, not to mention the tears. But it strengthened my resolved to support Pres. Bush and his efforts. I've always supported the troops, but I was starting to question his methods...I won't do that again. As far as the battle being on our soil, I believe it's here already and it's just a matter of time before it's full-blown IF we can't contain & suppress these people.

To no one in particular: I can't imagine how anyone watched this video, edited or not, and come away thinking this was a clean/quick kill. It appeared to me that the blade was dull and they were "sawing" rather than a quick slice. I thought it was horrific and sadistic. Any news agency that reported it as being quick either didn't watch the video or just plain lied.

zlala,

My husband just retired from the military, 12 days ago. I get a little different perspective on things as I get to see how this particular military man views things.

You are correct that the war is here now. It isn't just public yet. Hopefully it can be ended on their ground before it becomes active on ours. For my son, that is my hopes and prayers.

I'm another woman who viewed the video yesterday (I'm a grandmother, many times over). I think every American except small children and mentally unstable people should see it. It has nothing whatsoever to do with ghoulish curiosity, it has everything to do with seeing what we are up against.

The reason so many people are more interested in being "fair" to our enemies is because they haven't the slightest idea how horrid our enemies really are. Seeing gets the information into the brain a whole lot better than just hearing about it. We Americans have got to steel ourselves for additional horrid events if we don't eliminate these slimeballs.

I am a woman, and I watched it, I think mainly because I want to know what mainstream media won't tell me. The first thought I had was that these animals were not doing this in "retaliation" for the prison abuse, that was just an excuse, that unfortunately, America seems to be buying.
Another thought I had was...getting past the point that the prison abuse was a bad thing...what in the HELL were pictures taken for? Like no one knows the libs are just salivating over the chance to leak these pics? We could have avoided prisoner abuse issues entirely if we just took no prisoners. Shoot them all, and there are no prisoners to concern ourselves with. Another thought, one which may not be PC, is that Berg had no good reason to be in Iraq. As a Jew myself, I do not understand why he would put himself in that position. A war zone is no place to be "looking for work" and a war zone in the middle east is no place for a Jew by himself. This is NOT to say he deserved his fate! He certainly did not, but for lack of basic common sense, he put himself in harm's way, and now his family blames the U.S.
My son just got back from Iraq. Unfortunately, because he got a new duty assignment when he reenlisted, he will be returning there within 6 months. My advice to him the first time was "be careful" This time, my advice will be "If it is a question of "Him or You" or "him or your Buddy", make sure it is HIM!"
