What an odd story. He went there to inspect radio towers on his own? And then he got interrogated by the FBI?
I found this in my inbox on May 7...
Dear Friends and Customers of Nick Berg and Prometheus Towers,
I am enclosing the following news release which my wife and I are about to release to the media for you. If anyone out there in the broadcast industry can do anything to help us spread the word about our son's disappearance especially to the Mid East, we would be very appreciative:
On March 14 our son, Nick Berg, left for Iraq to inspect some radio towers that had been damaged during last years war. His goal was to secure some contract work for his business, Prometheus Methods Tower Service. He planned to return on March 30 through Amman, Jordan.
On March 24, Nick was picked up by the Iraqi police in Mosul and held for questioning for no apparent reason. He was subsequently detained by the U.S. military and interrogated by the FBI until his release on April 6. No reason was ever given for holding him for these 13 days. Immediately upon his release he emailed the family and proceeded south to Baghdad where he was staying at the Al Fanar Hotel.
On April 9 he called us and said that he was seeking a safe route out of the country either through Jordan, or possibly Turkey. Most of the major routes were closed due to military action around Fallujah. Since that time we have had no contact with our son. No one we know in Iraq has seen or spoken to him, and we know that he has not accessed his email. We are extremely worried about his safety. We are asking anyone who has seen Nick or knows anything about his whereabouts to come forward and give us this information so that he can be safely brought home.
We extend our sympathies to all of the many families who are in the same situation.
Suzanne and Michael Berg

When writing CBS, et al, don't forget to register a comment/complaint with the FCC. We're doing ours as a follow up to our original complaint against CBS for airing the photos in the first place.

Someone else put a second breaking news FR post on this same subject a few minutes after this one came out. It was pulled after about 100 comments by the Admin Moderator because of "CNN". It's prolly somewhere in history though.

In a statement read on the lawn of the Berg family's home in West Chester, Pennsylvania, 15 miles west of Philadelphia, neighbor and friend John Hauser described Nick Berg as "a great kid."
"The Berg family is devastated by this loss," the statement said. "They want to extend their sympathy to other families who have also suffered. They are asking the army to expedite the release of Nick's body so they can make arrangements and put this behind them."
WHAT?!

Subject: Fw: Nick Berg-Tower-pro member is missing in Iraq
Many of you may have already seen this message. Since there has been talk
on Tower-pro about work in Iraq this might shed some light on conditions in
that country for contractors. I thought the members of Tower-pro should see
this.

Michael Berg lashed out at the U.S. military and Bush administration, saying his son might still be alive if he had been allowed to leave the country on March 30, as he had originally planned. ''I think a lot of people are fed up with the lack of civil rights this thing has caused,'' he said. ''I don't think this administration is committed to democracy.'' I feel very sorry for the Berg family, they've had a terrible shock. Nick Berg went to Iraq on his own. Somehow he got swept up in investigations by the FBI. Sad, but considering that he went there voluntarily, apparently without any position pre-arranged, I have to chalk up what transpired after his release more to some very bad circumstances.
And Mr. Berg would do well instead of complaining about supposed indifference to civil rights by Bush, to remember that these animals took away his sons basic right. To life. Which pre-empts civil rights in every instance.

You aren't alone. It tells me that al-Qaeda knows very little about how the U.S. works after all - every time the Dems find a way to throw mud at Bush the turban boys end up saving the day for him. And I think they just did that.
We need to blast the networks for the demagoguery they've been shoving down our throats the past week. And this will do it.

They feel their son was an innocent victim in a war between Islamofascists and the Bush Administration.
They don't want to acknowledge that Islamofascism is at war with the Western world as well as the Christian/Jewish/Hindu/Buddist... Asian world.

Steve Harrigan just reporting that a mosque was attacked in Karbala. Pretty much destroyed I think. The mosque had been used to launch attacks against the coalition.

More and more, I think we will always live in two worlds that will never be reconciled. Actually, your statement was ALMOST right ----
The world will always live in two worlds that will never be reconciled by the hand of man.
Despite the "best" efforts of mankind, it will take the hand of God, through his Son Jesus Christ to recncile the world.

Looks like al-Sadr about to spend his last hours on earth! GOD I hope so! This is a Fox News Exclusive because the rest of the media don't think it's NEWS. Steve Haragon is embedded with the military to report the story.

The US Government has the body. I guess the animals just dumped it after they multilated the poor man. It was found Monday in Baghdad and identified by the State Department.
