Maybe it is for the best that the author doesn't home school her children. As bad as public schools have become, her children will surely grow up to be more normal there, than if she had home schooled them.
Like they say: "Home schooling isn't for everyone."

One of my homeschooled children graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgetown College this past Saturday. She is going to attend the University of Cincinnati graduate school next fall on a 100% scholarship with a healthy stipend to help out.Yes, but don't forge that "for every homeschooler who aces a spelling bee, there's some poor child being "instructed" by a parent who's barely literate herself." See, the author has already countered our arguments. Isn't he clever? LOL
I guess I'd better put my kids back in school because if YOUR kids are doing well, mine must not be and I must be illiterate.

Quoting Scripture, Pilgrims, or Founding Fathers doesn't impress liberals a bit, so let's turn their own documents against them in the homeschool debate:
U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 26, Section(3)
Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.

I responded to being called mis-guided because I didn't homeschool, by Straight Vermonter. The artcle is a silly as that accusation.
Since you agree withe the article (as you said earlier), then should I assume that you would teach your kid(s) that Homeschoolers are like terrorists?
As I said before, you took my agreement out of context. Of course not, homeschools parents chose differently, that's all.
And who here would you say is not "open-minded"?
Any one who believes their way is the only way. There seems to be a lot of disgust for anyone who would still choose public education.

you seem to have a problem with us who choose public education.Other than my disgust at their lack of consideration for the education of their children and the resultant harm to the republic, I don't have a problem with people who dump their children in public school.

Sometimes I wonder why people have children if they don't want to be around them. I remember being on an email list where a woman was upset because the school board had dared to have a teacher's inservice day right after a three day weekend. She had no idea what she was supposed to do with her kids all day. Now even us homeschoolers need a break, but those that say they can't fathom the idea of being around their kids really annoy me.

Congratulations.
An article in The Washington Times (May 9, 2004, p. D1 & D3), "Home-schooling: Nontraditional learning receiving high marks" by Karen Goldberg Goff, gave quite a different slant.

"Open-minded means respecting others values that differ from your own"
Oh, you mean values like five years of "welcome to your penis education", making condoms assessible, banning conservative clubs from schools, Gunpoint polie searches for drugs, Leftist indoctrination materials and slanted textbooks, Global Warming is going to kill us all, your kid is so stupid we have to have a medical form from a doctor before he can take a Rolaids after lunch, Teaching immoral values through literature (not the books themselves, but mocking the kid's opinions on them if they differ from the leftist teacher), blatant racism against white students by some black teachers, but you cant call it that because everyone knows blacks can't be racists, sixth grade school dances, We don't care if you learn, we just want you be be able to pass the test, How dare you question our authority here at school?, We will never ever say we were wrong or apologize for a grievous error on our part, We'll keep an incompetant teacher for at least a year because if we don't spend the money in the budget we'll lose that much in Federal funding next year...............
I'm teaching my kids not to be sheep and not to blindly accept everything the school teaches without first checking other sources. I've spent countless hours over the years "deprogramming" my kids from the leftist BS that is shoveled at them everyday in school.
I would hope as a conservative you would at least check the course content of your children's texts and workbooks.

Well YES... Kids all fitted with TRUTH bombs. prancing around spewing truth all over the neighbor kids. Like 2 + 2 = 4, things like that. A pitiful sight to see, too. In some cases causes the neigbor kids to lose self-esteem. I know some kids that know the capitals of overy state, the provinces in Kanukistan and URP too at the age of seven. Already can do some algebra and are done with school work by 10:00am in the morning and LOVE TO READ. They just love to read about new things.
Pitiful I tell ya.. Oh! for the days when all the children can go to school on monday and they are teaching the same things on friday, boring them to death. Which causes myriad behavior problems giving the teachers reasons to ask for even more money. This home schooling problem gets any worse and school budgets could be SLASHED and cost JOBS..

Actually I have put Tennis lessons,at the country club, on hold for myself in order to teach my two boys to read and write. However we still force them to go. (It is within our religious beliefs.)

I have not had to "deprogram" my kids because I have not left the responsibilty of raising them to any one else. So your point is?
