In his latest election-year stunt to undermine the Bush administration -- and our national resolve to finish the job in Iraq -- John Kerry has launched a petition calling for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Kerry claims that Secretary Rumsfeld should be held personally responsible for the actions of a few soldiers in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison who humiliated a group of the captive terrorists in their search for "actionable intelligence." This is the same John F. Kerry, by the way, who has alternately employed claims of his Vietnam wartime heroism and wartime criminality to catapult himself into the highest echelons of public life over the past three decades. Kerrys irrational call for Rumsfelds resignation, harkening back to his days as a Vietnam War protestor, is anything but out of the ordinary for the "gentleman from Massachusetts." His campaign claims that petition has received about 250,000 signatures. Act now to refute this political folly and support Secretary Rumsfeld.

I had a conversation with a teacher in the teacher's lounge today. We talked about Iraqi Prisoner Scandal and the upcoming court martials. He is a young teacher. He doesn't understand why we have Gitmo, why aren't the detainees's called POW's, and how come these detainees can't have legal representation? Bush and his Administration are mean people. The guy sounds like so many of the people I worked with when I taught college during the '90s. And I'm going back to teach school in the fall!
During the 1950s, you didn't hear that sort of nonsense, because so many teachers and professors were themselves veterans. And when they had come home just after the war and went to college, there is no way they would have knuckled under, had they had pc professors. (And they had their share of lefty professors, but those profs knew better than to even attempt the stunts their successors routinely pull.) Not only did those returning veterans have self-discipline, but they "knew things." That's one of many reasons why I support a return to the draft. No, the draft won't be a cure-all, but it might help start turning the tide against the sort of namby-pamby, indulgent and self-indulgent attitudes we see around us.

Inhofe is a heroic politician, which is not always a contradiction in terms.
