Let's see ... right now it's this issue. I guess there are no Anti-Bush books slated to come out this week. Next week it'll be something else.

I made that same exact observation last night. There was no Bush-hating liberal to shill a book, so 60 Minutes ran with this.

What you are seeing is liberal desperation. Since the Democrats have no positive policy ideas to promote for America, they know that their only hope of winning is if they find some giant scandal to bring President Bush down.

And it won't work. Senator Kerry says that he committed war crimes, so the public isn't going to pick him to solve simple prison abuse charges (even if this issue was the top story of the year, which it isn't).

Seven anti-Bush editorials in one day?! The NY Times could run 70 such hit pieces and it wouldn't impact the result of Election 2004.

It will, however, further diminish their national clout.

I'm getting the sense that the full-court press the media are putting on isn't helping their candidate much.

I'm thinking that the Law of Diminishing Returns is asserting itself in a big way. The attacks have just been non-stop and relentless. After a while the public just gets numb to all the shrillness and hysteria and affected outrage.

It's like living next to an airport. At first the jet noise keeps you awake at night and makes itself a big presence in your life. After you've been hearing it for several months, it just fades into the background and you don't even notice it. The jets are just as noisy, it's just that you're used to the racket.

Bush could apologize 25 times and Rumsfeld could step down, but that won't stop the media attacks on the Bush administration, nor change their opinion of them. It's their hatred of Bush that fires their cylinders.

CBS not only undermined the safety of our troops, but undermined an ONGOING investigation, not a completed investigation, but an ONGOING one, by tampering with evidence they weren't supposed to be in possession of.

But who will make them tell who leaked it? No one!
Who will hold them responsable? No one!

They get by with this and now the soldiers may not get a fair trial.

NYT should be banned on FR same as DU is. They are one in the same. Why should its treatment be any different.

"It's their hatred of Bush that fires their cylinders."

Well, "hatred" they've got. It's new ideas for America that they seem to have a shortage on.

It's all coordinated, just like this Iraqi prisoner scandal that had been out there in the public domain since January 16th.

And again reported in March.

My question is - did this come up on FreeRepublic back in January?

"In fact, if Kerry's numbers continue to decline I'll start to think that this stridency may be a contributing factor."

The Fraudcast Media thought that they could win the 2000 election, but they lost. With their grip on the gate slipping away with each passing minute, they've decided on an all-out full-court press - Tom Brokaw on NBC timed his retirement so that he could make one last-gasp try at winning the 2004 election. On all the nets, all pretense of objectivity has been tossed aside - and I agree with you that it will backfire as even the average apolitical Joe Sixpack can see how blatantly they're bashing the Prez. They are turning Dubya into the underdog - and you know how people feel about underdogs being kicked when they're down.

But wait. It's going to get even MORE shrill with each passing month - as they lay it on as thick as they can and Dubya's poll numbers go up despite it. And they will fail to see the cause and effect.

LOL! Excellent analogy. I moved and went to college in 1989. Lived under the flight path of the airport and near a hospital. If there wasn't a plane flying over, there was an ambulance going by. A month after I moved into that apartment, I didn't even notice either noise.

Living in NYC, I'm used to the liberal spin, but this is SO blatant, it's beyond the pale, even for them.

They should just change their name to The Progressive Times and get it over with.

Just when I think I'm gonna vote third party (again), stuff like this comes out that in my mind paints Bush as a more sympathetic character.

http://www.pownetwork.org/gulf/us_district_court%20_suit.htm

The American POW Plaintiffs fell into Iraqi hands on varying dates during the conflict but beginning as early as January 17, 1991. All such Plaintiffs were brutally tortured by officials of the Republic of Iraq during their captivity. Treatment while in the hands of Iraqi intelligence personnel was barbarous. As will subsequently be specified in this Complaint, the torture varied for each of the POW Plaintiffs, but the overall torture of American POWs by officials of the Republic of Iraq included severe beatings with pistols and rifles, weighted rubber hoses, truncheons, blackjacks, fists, belts, metal pipes, batons, and sticks, including an axe handle. It further included mock executions; threatened castration; threatened amputation of fingers and other dismemberment; threatened death; threats to send their body parts to their families in the United States; systematic starvation; systematic exposure to freezing cold; deprivation of medical care; purposeful aggravation of existing injuries; electrical shock with a device wrapped around a POW’s head; injection of a mind altering substance; kicking, including with steel-toed boots; cupped hand blows to the ears; beating with a mallet on the knees; handcuffs and restraints so tight as to cut off circulation, damage nerves, and cause the hands to swell and turn purple; use of cattle prods and stun guns; being knocked unconscious, sometimes repeatedly; blows to the legs and neck with a heavy pendulum-like object; whipping with a cat-o’-nine-tails; confinement in darkness; confinement in filthy conditions exposing them to contagion and infection; burning with cigarettes and heated spoons; being led blindfolded into walls and stairwells; being urinated and spat upon; mental suffering about the agony that their families must be enduring when the POWs were not permitted by the Iraqi authorities to inform their families that they were alive; living in constant fear of death and torture, a climate intended to create humiliation and degradation; and other atrocities causing great suffering and serious injury in clear violation of the internationally accepted obligations of the Government of Iraq.

Injuries and illnesses sustained during this torture by American POWs generally included a fractured skull, broken bones, including a broken leg and broken vertebrae, broken tibia, broken facial structure, burns, torn muscles, chipped teeth, broken noses, a dislocated jaw, a dislocated shoulder, a torn rotator cuff, perforated eardrums, injuries to knees so severe as to cause lameness, painful joints, injury to kidneys, numbness and nerve damage, hearing impairment, impairment of the sense of smell, infections including eye infection, dysentery, nausea, severe weight loss, massive bruises (in one case so severe and extensive that the bruising was described "as if the body had been dipped in indigo ink"), and other injuries. In at least one case, a POW Plaintiff was so severely starved he ate the scabs off his own body. Pain and suffering of the POWs during this torture and their mental suffering and anguish resulting during their period of confinement by Iraq were intense and extreme. The effects of this brutal treatment by Defendants have continued in years since.
