We're all in agreement as to the shameful behavior displayed those soldiers responsible for the atrocities, the fact that these pictures have been leaked out into the arena of public opinion by CBS and repeated countless times over and over everyday since then, those soldiers will NOT get a fair trial.

The "Senate Intelligence Committee" is entirely an oxymoron. It's a sad commentary when the Capitol is cluttered with a bunch of old codgers who can't even turn CNN on to catch a CentCom briefing now and again.

I'd like to see Byrd's timeline paired up in the record with the CentCom memo of January 16, 2004, announcing to the world allegations of prisoner abuse.

I am glad that someone finally sees the difference between the normal events that occur under the "war is hell" banner and what is seemingly going on here. It is one thing to get tough with suspected terrorists in order to extract information, but quite another to gleefully enjoy the sadistic torture of those prisoners. (Not to mention how incredably stupid it was from a stragecic standpoint to tape and photograph such acts.) The biggest part of the overall war we are in is one of ideals and values. Sinking to the level of the terrorists only undermines our chance of ultimate victory.

As for the apologies, they are a way of demonstrating to the Arab world that our values are different. (Quite consistent with fighting a war of values.) This is completely different than the nonsense about expecting the Bush administration to appologise over 9/11, like Clarke did. Bush rightly refused to do so, stating that blame lies with those who did the deed.
