Notice to all Yankees ( Mississippi ranked least livable state 6 years running)

Mississippi ranked 50th for the sixth year in a row. Other states in the bottom five were Tennessee, Louisiana and South Carolina.

For the 14th year running, Alabama has ranked near the bottom in a national survey of "livability" that measures each state's quality of life based on factors such as hazardous waste sites and the rates of crime, bankruptcy and unemployment.

Kansas-based Morgan Quitno Press ranked Alabama as the 47th most livable state.

The group found New Hampshire the "most livable state." Others in the top ten were Minnesota, Vermont, Iowa, New Jersey, Wyoming, Virginia, Nebraska, Connecticut and South Dakota.

I was stationed nearby in Pascagoula...trust me. That area is the anal passage of the entire South.

Just as I figured. You drove the turnpike, you've been to Newark and Atlantic City. You probably watch the Soprano's too and think it's real life. You've seen maybe 1/2 of 1% of the state but yet you consider yourself an expert on NJ.

I have to wonder about people like you. Do you form all of your opinions and decisions by using paltry and innaccurate information ?

By the way, I've been to just about every state in the Union, each place has good points and bad points. I have never seen a state that is perfect. Why don't you "be a guy" and tell me where you live so I can dredge up meaningless negative tidbits about your home too.

Then get out. Don't let the door hit you on the a*s.

We don't want or need whiners here in NJ.

I like the cold. I like boiled meat - but I also like the best Italian food in the country outside of Queens. I like the fact that my brother is a commercial lobster fisherman and I can get 'em right at the dock. I like sticking my toes in the Atlantic in March, just to watch 'em cramp up, and I like that I can rake my own clams as the sun comes up and eat fresh chowder for supper that night. I like hearing the fog horn when I'm walking my dog late in the evening. I like watching a baseball game from the third baseline down at the beach with the incomparable beauty of Long Island Sound as the background. I like that my alma mater's basketball team can kick all y'alls asses :), and that it is still an aggie school. I really like the fact that most of you think that all of Connecticut looks like what you see as you drive through on I-95, because I know better. I like hooking into a 25 lb. chopper and fighting that puppy into the boat. I like that I live in a "shall issue" state. I like that I live in the lowest crime zone save one,for a mid-sized city in the entire country.

You make it sound so wonderful LOL. Actually, I have been priviledged to see the Conn you describe, and you are well within your rights to describe as you have. I also spent a week with friends that live up in "mountains" in New Hampshire, The view from thier house is breathtaking and the air is fresher than any I have ever breathed in

That said, however, I like the warm. I like being able to grill out on my back porch 365 days a year. I love a good meal of BBQ ribs, Collard greens, Black eye peas, Butter beans and corn bread. I drink SWEET TEA by the gallon. I like the fact I can drive down to the Gulf Shores in January and lay on the beach most weekends. I like being able to play golf year round. I like to watch Crawfish boil, anticipating the meal ahead

You got me on the Lobster thing though -- One of my fond memories of NH was Boiling Lobsters the size of a small dog on my friends back deck. OMG that was heaven.

Ha! You tell him! All the Northeast whiners end up moving down south. Its part of the master plan to rid ourselves of the weak and chilly. More chowder and boiled meat for the rest of us.

My experience of life in this nation says that the list is completely inverted.

Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama and Georgia are just the greatest places to be.

It's all in what you want in life. I, like you, absolutely love the south. I love the weather, the friendly people, and the fact that the pace of life perfectly matches the slow lazy days of summer. But, Ol'Sox makes a very convincing case for Connecticut. Others have thier reasons for living where they do.

I myself absolutely fell in love with Northern California when I was stationed at Beale AFB. Absolutely beautiful countryside, amazing summer weather, just perfect --except it is in the Repuplik of Kalifornia.

Sounds like Buffalo. I spent the first 13 years of my Life in Buffalo, NY -- we had 2 seasons, Winter and the 4th of July.

Yep, it's plumb terrible here in Alabama. Too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, no natural resources, mean people, no education, bad air, bad water, too many weeds, low IQs, high cost of living, nothing but quacks for doctors, too dirty, no indoor plumbing, man, it's just awful.

Y'all don't come, ya hear.;-)

And add in the price of houses to the pluses down here. I'm in Augusta, GA. Down here, 300K gets you a palace.

hazardous waste sites and the rates of crime, bankruptcy and unemployment

If Antarctica was a state, it would rank #1. 0 hazardous waste sites, 0 crime, 0 bankruptcy, and 0% unemployment.

jumping to conclusions must be one of your most common activities. If I said I worked with a couple of medical companies, that might indicate that I've been off of the interstate and driven more than highways. if you travel around 8 or ten towns and cities in a state the size on NJ then you have some sense of the character of the state.

I don't watch the Sopranos, because I think that it would be just as wrong to tell a glamorous story about the KKK as it is to tell about guys who use a gun to close the sale.

You might go back to the orgin of the tread, read that it was a comment on a study picking desireable states in which to live. The study names a number of states with terrible winters. That was the point of my comment and before you know it you are telling me about my TV viewing. Get a life.

"I'll bet the list was put together by a bunch of Northeners."

Of course it was, they want to be sure there is plenty of room when they get ready to move South! As Brother Dave Gardner used to say, "did you ever hear of anybody retiring to the North?"

I live in South Carolina, the Yankees are taking over Myrtle Beach, they flock down here and then sit around and bitch because the natives don't act like Damn Yankees.

Loosiena is worse than Mississippi. I vouch for your cause. We should start a movement to dethrone Mississippi. Besides those women from around Natchez are snooty.

I was born and raised in South Carolina, when I go and visit NC and Tenn, I want to move but then I go home and look around and realize I can't live in all three. Minnesota? Why not just move to the North pole?

my family has been in louisiana since the late 1700's. We left for twenty years, came back for six months, left again for three years and are back now. Each time I regret it but they pay us so well that it is hard to refuse. I won't retire here. But,,,that said,,,the mississipians beat us by a mile in biscuits. Mississippi is worth going to for the biscuits and pies alone. They do great pies!!!

Hey cajungirl! I too am from cajun blood. Although it must have been extremely painful for our ancestors to endure the pain of being exiled, it turned out great in the long run. For this, I wish to thank the British for doing us cajuns a favor and moving us from a place far worse than Louisiana, which is Canada.

I know of many great, hard working, and prosperous cajuns who have bucked the ancient trend of populism and defeatism. There is still good money to be made in Louisiana, and wish the best for those who choose to stay and seek political change. Louisiana has enormous potential to be a great and prosperous state. The fact that it isn't makes it an enormous tragedy.

Just perusing this thread, and I haven't seen anyone tout the virtues of Wyoming yet, so I thought I'd take a crack at it. I once spent four months in the Bighorn mountains outside Tensleep, and I have never met nicer people anywhere. I had the opportunity to get to know folks in Worland as well, and I remember them as unbelievably friendly to a young New Englander who's hair was pretty long at the time. I was invited to football games, rodeos, church picnics and family gatherings by people who didn't know me from Adam. I almost stayed, but I just couldn't warm up to sugar beets enough to make a career out of 'em. Here's to Wyoming - you deserve your slot in the top 10 AFAIC.

MS is the 50th most livable state ONLY if what you want is "cradle to grave" SOCIALISM & the "nanny state"!

i would rank every yankee state at the bottom, as i love LIBERTY and want the government to simply get OUT of our lives & leave us alone.

that is why i end most every post with:
