John Kerry's commanding officer was just interviewed on Fox News. According to Lt. Commander Grant Hibbard when Kerry showed up in front of him requesting a Purple Heart, Hibbard saw that he had a "scratch"(Hibbard's word) on his forearm. And because, according to Hibbard, there was no report of enemy action on Kerry's patrol that day and the "scratch" did not receive medical attention from a medical officer, Hibbard declined Kerry's request for a Purple Heart.

"why now the play?"
I have wondered since Kerry started his campaign why the Boston Globe has given this guy a "pass" for over 30 years and then I came to my senses...He's a 'Rat...had he been a Republican the Globe would have been all over his military/medical records like white on rice!!!

I think yours is the material point: Kerry may be skating a little on this issue. Deflecting questions about the medals leaves no time to focus attentions on his VVAW actions and activities.
We need to see more photos and coverage of those actions. We need to see him forced to explain what he did in Paris meeting with the North Vietnamese reps, etc.

By the way THREE weeks was ONLY about 20% of the TOTAL time that Kerry was in-country.
I take it that Effingkerry resubmitted his DENIED request to his NEW CO and somehow got it approved the 2nd time? How many of us VETS have done that before?
And I wonder what NEW/CHANGED information he provided to his NEW CO to get him to APPROVE his 2nd REQUEST for his 1st PH??

My first movie camera, got it in the 1950's, was about the size of a brick of coffee. You could easily take it along on a weekend camping trip to Viet Nam. You would, of course, lose it or trade it or forget to use it, after a couple of hours in serious enemy territory.

I've been accused of being undead/ a vampire/ in league with belial, and Hillary scares me!
If I see her wandering around these parts come October, I'm grabbing the garlic, crucifix, and Holy Water and dousing MYSELF with it.
THEN I'll find some crypt to hide out in, guaranteed her heinousness won't go there at all.

I've got a couple of problems with these scandals.
For one thing, this is the wrong time to be piling on. Senator Kerry is far too close to being dumped by his Party. Yet he's such an easy candidate for us to beat that we should be holding our fire, I think, until at least after their Boston convention.
For another thing, we don't *need* a scandal to beat Senator Kerry. His own voting record, flip-flops, and failure to have even a single policy of his own enacted into law in his multiplie Senate terms spell D E F E A T for the Dems.
We don't have to be like the Dems. They have no new ideas. All that they can do is to be negative.
But we've got tax cuts, killing the ABM treaty, killing Kyoto, a successful war on terror, and a booming economy for our track record in the past, as well as faith based charities, deploying our national missile defense system, and private school choice vouchers as positive agendas for moving forward in the future.
So we don't *need* to depend upon Senator Kerry's numerous scandals. We can be above this fray. We can beat them based solely upon our ideas, rather than on scandals.

"When he couldn't get what he wanted from Hibbard, he went to the next Commander. He probably would have continued in his quest until he got the answer he wanted."Yep, exactly. He actually went to his C.O. and requested a purple heart. This is REALLY rich!

I got a real good idea for Kerry: He should only slit his throat (on Hardball, of course!) and THEN we will guarantee him a (posthumous)Congressional Medal of Honor! Can't beat that! Let's try it and see if he goes for it. Okay - I guess he won't really go for it, but I assure you that he will think it over. That rat's behind.
