It is a Huey...the Marines still use them. I thought they were all retired, but I'll chalk that up to "learning something new every day". Thanks.

Explosions and gunfire rocked Fallujah on Wednesday after a heavy battle the night before when U.S. forces pounded Sunni insurgents with warplanes and artillery amid demands for guerillas to surrender or die. I like those binary choices :-)
(John ''Fedayeen" Kerry - the Mullahs' regime candidate)
Nice tagline.

Those mosques certainly have a lively atmosphere. Sharif don't like it...

CNN reading some emails...
First was 'we need to negotiate a peace with IGC and UN...blah blah blah"
Second 'full force - take them out'
Third 'full force - take them out'
[Kind of surprising 2 to 1 for wiping out the 'insurgents' on CNN. hehehe]

I think the plan in Falluga is to use the Stallingrad defence. Only for some reason the media thinks that it is the Terrorists that are using it when in fact we are! we have surounded the city and are pushing and squeezing them here and there to wear them out and run them out of supplies. When the terrorists surrender and come out of that city they will be a tattered rabble, malnurished and shellshocked. The Russians were able to reduce the most powerfull army (German 6th) in the world at the time in the same manner.

Snipers were sent in earlier to take out insurgent mortar positions at the train station. They were spotted and shot at... The rest is history.

"I have to laugh when I hear you say 'all out offensive'. We've been playing 'patty-cake' with these guys. We haven't begun military action. the world will know when we do."LOL...we sure have been. The media had it wrong for a long time. They don't know how to handle what's happening, 'cause they can't parse it.

it was a political decision to "hold".....( and give peace a chance moment)..
supposedly a bunch of clerics are on the way to negotiate an end to "hostilities" at fallujah tomorrow...(basically)
an effort to see what's left....
..as far as using women and children as shields..it is nothing new. The Arab's will do that, Al jarzeeeah will report it and civilized nations will cringe but they will always use it....because they know "soft" spots and will use them. (politically). No one condemns them and even if they did, they wouldn't stop.
So we'll see if the clerics can do anything "nice" tomorrow
..(reminds me of the cease fire that let OBL escape the mountains in Afghanistan)..

"how do you know this has been going on as you say????"
I have inside info. I have spent considerable time over there and will hopefully be going back soon. But nothing I've said hasn't been reported in the open media. The difference is, I'm able to read our current intel and watch the weapons system videos to see the actual results. It fills in all the gaps the media leaves out. But I would never comment on anything that wasn't already released by the DoD.

The train station appears to be on the extreme north side of the city. The last reported positions of the three marine battalions was in the industrial SE part of the city. If we can continue drawing them out and kill them great. Going into that city, house to house, could get very ugly, very quickly. FYI, Global Security has an excellent map / photo of the city.

"it seems like I heard some report describe the situation as "the insurgents fought the marines to a ** standstill ** and forced them to withdraw to the edges of the town. This is such a misrepresentation of the disposition there."Yep, I heard reports like that several times. The word "retreat" was used in at least one of them. I heard an idiot anchorwoman this morning say that this was the "largest pitched battle since the war ended". I wanted to STRANGLE her!
