My apologies if a thread already exists. I did a search on "Toomey" and found nothing.

I arrived at my polling area (suburban Philadelphia) at 6:45 am to hand out palm cards. The weather is terrific this morning, but turnout (I thought) was light (I had to leave at 9:15, but will be back).

Actually, I have a good feeling about Pat.

If the unions didn't think Toomey could win the General, why would they go to the trouble of changing parties to vote for Specter in the primary?

The various reports on turnout are interesting, but in all the years I've been following them here at FR, they are invariably the same: "heavy turnout here in our conservative area," "really light in the [insert name of conservative opponent] area."

So I've come to put absolutely no stock in these reports. We'll know soon enough.

Can Toomey win the general election.

In 1994, many of us were wondering if Rick Santorum could win the general election.

As for Bush needing Specter to win PA, Senate cantidates ride a Presiden't coattails, not the other way around.

But if Arlen wins it won't matter who is President because this country will be ruled by the Judiciary.

We can live with 4 or 8 years of a Dim President. But we must reign in the Judiciary. IMHO that is a much more important strategic concern.

And I think Toomey can win PA for the President as well as anyone can.

The Dem's also have a race for AG in PA. Eisenhower versus Baschle. Seems to a lot of acrimony in that race too.

I saw on an earlier thread that apparently few, if any, dems are taking up Spector's invitation to cross over to vote for him. Could this be a reason for no cross-over voting?

Can Toomey win the general election.

Conventional wisdom says no, but Specter has no base and the opponent is a dyed-in-the-wool liberal with no name recognition.

Conventional wisdom would have said that Rick Santorum could never have beaten a supposedly pro-life, pro-gun, faux-"moderate" like Ron Klink in 2000 WHILE the Pittsburgh/Philly vote fraud was rampant in favor of AlWhore, who "won" PA easily.

Toomey has the luxury of facing a loony liberal from the Philadelphia area, in a year where MAYBE we'll be able to keep the Massive DemocRat Vote Fraud to a minimum. Santorum had the benefit of running as an incumbent Senator, which Toomey does not, but any Republican who argues that defeating Arlen today automatically means "Senator Hoeffel" in November is a hopelessly-deluded RINO.

Why give the commies a win-win in November (Specter-Hoeffel)? Vote Toomey - now and in November - and teach the RINOs a lesson! If Pennsylvania can do it, maybe so can Maine, Vermont, Arizona, Rhode Island... and anywhere else where the RINOs need to be exterminated.

Toomey is pro-life. That is very important for me. But, more importantly, Toomey would vote to confirm Judges who believe in strict interpretation. Specter lead the Republican "Borking" of Robert Bork.

If it weren't for RINOS like him, we might still be debating Abortion in the legislature.

You're not making sense. Sounds like you already were going to vote for Toomey, and then Santorum endorsed Specter, so you took out your dislike for Specter on Santorum.

I don't think so. People aren't going to vote for Bush because of Specter. It's the other way around. People will vote for Toomey because of Bush.

Don't get defensive. It's an honest question, not about Christianity, but about the personal beliefs of the individials who pray. When people (of any religion) get the things they prayed for, they tend to credit the prayer as having influenced the outcome, but when they don't get them, they say "God had a different plan," as if their wishes weren't to be consulted in any case. The two viewpoints seem at odds with each other.

PA has a closed primary system. If a demo wanted to vote for Specter, he/she would have to have their party registration changed last month.

Can Toomey beat a Democrat in Penn and will this adversely affect Bush carrying the state in the General? Just curious as to thoughts there in Pennsylvania.

Are you saying that having one or both Senators from a state in your party doesn't help? It gives the ticket a voice and fund-raising help in that state.

I couldn't take any primary endorsement from him seriously after that.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but an endorsement from anyone is just as likely to make me go the other way. To come home and find a recorded endorsement (or a recording from a candidate himself) on my answering machine makes me nuts. I don't care about hearing these people in person (I have my own friends), and I certainly don't want them secondhand. I also don't like being told what to do, thank you very much. I'll decide for myself.

I was at the 2nd District voting hall in York this morning at 9:30am, and the turnout was light. I was Republican #144, and the demokkkRATs were only up to #87, at that point.

I have a good feeling we're going to send Arlie Sphincter packing. Good riddance to the liberal RINO scumbag.

Your initial statement is debatable at best and totally unfounded at worst. Have you considered that FReepers understand strategy but disagree with the cause-and-effect conclusions you draw?
