My apologies if a thread already exists. I did a search on "Toomey" and found nothing.

I arrived at my polling area (suburban Philadelphia) at 6:45 am to hand out palm cards. The weather is terrific this morning, but turnout (I thought) was light (I had to leave at 9:15, but will be back).

Actually, I have a good feeling about Pat.

Right! Specter running is a net plus for Bush in PA. Also, every seat in the Senate counts. There are always a RINO or two there ready to bolt, so we need at least 52 seats. Specter should win comfortably in November.

This election explains why our current GOP leadership has become democrat like. As long as Republicans continue to elect and re-elect RINO's, we are getting the party we deserve.

This is why Bush has been spending money like a druken sailor. Why our leadership does not take on democrats like it's an act of war.

Maybe - but who the hell wants that? Though I do think Rendell should be able to be beaten.

If Toomey was smart, he would forget about politics and go back to the private sector and make money. I learned a long time ago that politics suck, and that in the end the money-people always win anyway.

But why the hell can't I stop caring about it......?

Given that there are other issues, if the 2 candidates are both pro-abortion, you need to look at other issues.

Do you want to protect the born as well as the unborn? If you do, you need to support the candidates on that will support the war on terror.

Look. We all knew this was coming. Whoever won was going to risk votes for the most conservative of the two viable options for President.

If Toomey had won, the moderates around Philly may have voted for Kerry because Toomey campaigning in Philly for Bush and himself would be meaningless and would attract nothing and they might also have voted for Hoeffel.

With Specter the winner, we are exactly where were were last week. The same guy is running for president. We can get petulant and decide Bush is to blame because he is loyal to party incumbents or we can keep an eye on the big picture -- which doesn't change. We must support the rightmost candidate who is viable in general elections. Period. In general elections there is no other responsible option.

Take solace in knowing Specter is 74. He won't be around much longer.

Santorum and Bush could have won this for Toomey. I couldn't understand Santorum saying Toomey was too conservative to win in PA given how conservative Santorum himself is! Specter and judges are a disaster. Toomey was worth the gamble.
