We are already getting propaganda from Al Jazerra trying to encourage an attack by suggesting that the insurgents have 'weakened'.

That's what I thought, too. They see this as what it is: they've lost.

Am I totally off base here... does anyone know approx. breakdowns of when and how we started losing alot of our guys?? It just seems that when we went in and air-assaulted the snot out of the bad-guys at the beginning of this thing we softened them up so nicely that it made the ground assault a bit safer and more effective. Why not do the same here, bring in the boys in the planes let them drop in a couple of love letters and see who really wants to stick around in the name of Allah. I have to think we would, for lack of a better term, "shock and awe" all of these idiots!!

We should LEVEL places like Fallujah and Najaf, let the arabs get good and pissed at us for a period of time and it will eventually subside.

Don't think so! You level their holiest cities and you'll go from trying to fight a a few 1000 psycopaths to about 1 million psycopaths! If it were to be done, then we need to use Nutron bombs. Kill everyone and I mean everyone in both cities but leave their buildings standing. Then the terrorists have nothing to hide in.

calm down...Bush is not one to back out of a tight situation...he knows something we don't...lets give him a chance...everyone...SIT TIGHT!

Have to agree. It is a dangerous decision for our military, but I'll bet the south 40 that at the first big enemy assault the marines will be cut loose --- and no one can say GW didn't display patience and diplomacy before they are given the go ahead.

I had the honor this week of dining with some Marines who served in Iraq, and they are confident that Fallujah is being handled correctly.

I certainly have faith in our military as opposed to the hand-wringing, gun-slinging nut fringe that comes out on these threads. And I have faith in the President.

I hope your Marine acquaintances don't read the stupid crap that gets posted on these threads. They (and we!) get enough of that from the media.

Sounds like a great dinner to me.

Choices:
1) The Marines go to the city center and take control accompanied by Iraqi police and with approval of city leaders.
2) The Marines fight into the city center and take control opposed by Iraqi leadership.

I'm not sure what all the complaints about. Either way, the Marines get to the city center and take control. Either way they are ordered to shoot anybody with a weapon. Either way they will be conducting searches of suspicious locations. I don't see what all the gnashing of teeth is for????

Maybe I'm being too literal here, but since when does a cease fire allow us to use snipers at will? Last I saw, our side is the only side that's actually obeying the cease fire and not doing any killing.

I don't like the sound of this, but I am willing to wait and see.

I will also be offering up some prayers for our military men and their families.

What's your point?

Politics and war are inter-linked. It does us no good to run the war perfectly and then win things in time in order to turn the country over to John Kerry.

The strategy they choose is designed to minimize losses among Iraqi civilians and the Marines themselves.

Come on, man- think about it. What sort of hit would Bush take if he ordered the Marines in (when an alternative existed) and twenty-something (or more) were killed, along with five thousand or so enemy civilians- all broadcast live on Al Jazeera.

So far as I'm concerned, Fallujah should be razed to the ground and it's population (Islamist and pro-Saddam) left to starve in the desert. But that wouldn't be politically smart, now would it?

Just like going to Afghanistan, eh??

Like Iraq will be a disaster?

There are few if any on this board with the knowledge and expertise to second guess our President on this issue. He is acting with the best advice available.

Forget the other countires. I don't care about them.

I care about Republican voters (especially women) who, weak as they often are, are needed.

Well sh*t, that's fine!! The buildings aren't the one's shooting at our guys so I have no problem with not wanting to destroy their holy cities and structures. I guess my main point of my post was to "level" the bad guys...

I agree with your response..

You need to get out more. An enforced cease fire, means that if the other side picks up a weapon, we blow their head off. We have killed over 700 insurgents in the past two weeks. Most of them have the same bloody hole in their foreheads from our snipers. They are scared to death, which is why Al Jazzera is trying to help them now.
