Why Bravo? This guy miscalculated. It doesn't look like they were necessarily going to kill them. If the others come home safe, was it still a good move?

Hmmmmmm, yeah. Maybe he should have tried to be more "understanding" of their situation as terrorists.

Or offered a hug instead.

What will it take to convince you islamists are blood thirsty murderers? If you are American or Christian, they want you (and everyone you love) DEAD!

Yeah. Danny Pearl probably thought the same thing.

At the time, the guy was standing in front of a grave-his grave. I think that's a pretty strong indication the murderous scum did intend to kill him. Now, we must find a way to kill the kidnappers...the sooner the better.

As the gunman's pistol was pointing at him the hostage "tried to take off his hood and shouted: 'now I'll show you how an Italian dies,'" he said.

This gentleman for some reason knew he had nothing to lose by doing this. He let them know he willing to defy them and would stay the course. This news is a SPIT in the face to the terrorists and the anti-war activists that gathered outside the Italian Government offices calling for them to immediately withdraw troops after this was reported. guido

The better question is, "if he doesn't get a chance to kill them, spill their blood later, was it a good move?"

Your question is a good one. As a former Naval aviator, part of the training we went through in SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape - lessons learned from Vietnam POW's) was not be exhibit type 'A' personality traits if you want to survive in captivity. That does not mean giving your captures whatever they want, but being a hard head give the enemy a reason to kill you, if for nothing else but to show the other prisoners their place.

The objective is to survive, get home, and in the process, give the enemy as little as possible that he can use against you or your cause. Thats a little different from the old 'Name, Rank, Serial Number' only, no matter what torture or threat you face.

A hostage is a bargaining chip. The only reason the terrorists were maintaining his life in the first place was to get concessions. This guy gave his life to keep the terrorists from getting what the wanted.

He deserves every bit as much the honor and respect as our boys who have given their lives in Iraq.

Yes, blame the victim of the animals. I'm sure they were going to send him along on his way. (/sarcasm)
