Condi gets applause.
Explaining that she's aware of a speech Kerrey gave where he posited that perhaps a response to the Cole would be to attack Iraq.
Kerrey asks if she just read it (as prep, he implies), she says no, she read it quite a while ago. So you didn't retaliate due to my speech, he then asks? No, she says, but it was a brilliant example of thinking strategically, not tactically.
She gives lengthy detailed response of the strategic thinking of the administration.
Kerrey advised she should admit they made mistakes.
Rice: I do not believe to this day the kind of response you say we should have taken would have been a good idea.
With all due respect to Dick Clarke, she says we were NOT presented with a plan. Kerrey starts yelling (I've noted before on these threads, he is unstable). She insists on answering.
Kerrey gets applause for trying to shut her down. Rice wins the day AGAIN and finishes her answer.
