Mrs. Laney admitted killing two of her sons by bashing their heads with rocks. She struck and maimed a third son. She said God told her to kill the boys as a test of faith.
Sounds like she's been listening to Robert Tilton.

This is horrible. I have not read one article claiming that this woman had a history of mental illness. Not a single one. And the method she used to kill was bloody. The surviving child will be disabled for life. In the Andrea Yates case, she DID have a history of severe mental illness and was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, and still got jail time. I think that this woman is an opportunist who found a "get out of jail free" card. This verdict is sad beyond words.

Maybe the jurors are abortion "rights" backers and could not bring themselves to put to death anyone who just waited a few years after birth for performing her own abortions via stoning. At least she did not stoop to saline solutions!!!
And who said TX is tough on crime???? It's all part of the Lone Star myth if they did.

The prevailing attitude that a mother just wouldn't do something like this unless she were crazy
Yes indeed, and yet every abortion stops a beating heart and is procured BY WOMEN too!!

I've posted those statistics along with stats from the Justice Department many times on here. It's still amazing to see people who say only men kill kids when the facts speak otherwise.

In Planned Parenthood's eyes, the woman was exercising her right to "choose".

I wonder how the jury and media would react to a woman supposedly "mentally ill" who killed an abortion doctor and a gay man?

I've posted those statistics along with stats from the Justice Department many times on here. It's still amazing to see people who say only men kill kids when the facts speak otherwise. That's not the only paradox that concerns children's safety. Mom's murder their kids more then dad, and mom's kill more children up to age 16 than guns do, when auto accident's are factored in and "mom" caused the accident. I concede that gang members are dangerous to children up to age 18, but not age 21 that the CDC and "Mil Mom March" include in their misleading statistics.
Alas, we will never solve these problems if it is more politically profitable to abuse the data to advance an agenda. But the socialist/feminist's agenda to collectivize the society of the U.S. is more important than facts. If some kids die in the process on the way to feminist utopia, I guess that's the price of the future.

You know if opportunistic women can use mental illness as an excuse to commit crimes, then surely people can use women's mental health as an excuse for sexism. After all, a company can deny women employees promotions because of their mental health. Accused rapists can question the mental health of their victims to discredit them. This case opens a can of worms.

a father who had previously had committed adultery against his wife, waited until the wife was very sound asleep and then went through the house brutally killing the children after premeditation would be viewed differently.
Where'd you get that part? I don't recall seeing anything about her being an adulteress.

I told Chris Baker and I gotta tell you: please stop with the Pia crap. It makes Yates sound like a little helpless girly-girl. (Or like Pia Zadora, which is certainly a horrendous fate.)

Wayne and Harvey are good killer middle names. Pia sounds like a stuffed animal. Let's call her Andrea Hillary Yates from here on out.

Okay, that works for me.
I'm not sure Pia sounds like a stuffed animal, though. I think it sounds like something men need to do during a night at a bar in the South.

Some people should just not be exposed to the Old Testament before they gain a real understanding of the New Testament.

No, but folks around me, particularly my husband, noticed a distinct change in my behavior. I thank God daily that he was the kind of warm and loving man, and so strong, too, to let me talk to him about what I was feeling, how I was reacting, the odd turmoil going on inside me. He bought me a cellphone so I could call him "anytime" I needed to talk, did more than the lion's share of housework and keeping up with the kids, and did everything in his power to help me through it. He burned up sick days and vacation days when my energy was simply depleted. He told me afterwards that if he believed I was ever a threat to the kids, he would have taken them away. It was those many special moments with my kids, loving on them, reading to them, snuggling with them, that got me through.
And the phone calls came in from family and friends almost daily. I realize now they were "checking up" on me, because I was so down in spirits. Friends in the neighborhood also lent a hand, without ever coming out and saying they were lending a hand. When the spell finally broke, people again noticed a distinct change and slowly eased back, letting me take charge of my life once more.
In my opinion, there must have been signs somewhere along the line. Unless you are confronted with some kind of severely traumatic event, the vast majority of people don't move into madness in one giant step.
