In 1998 I drove from Nashville to Minneapolis and back.

I drove thru downtown Chicago and onto I-94 and over towards Gary and then back thru Indianapolis and Louisville to here. The area just south of downtown where the projects towers go on forever looked most uninviting and it remained that way for what seemed like around 20 miles.

I do not know Chicago. My wife loves it. Chicago for her is like NYC is for me.....Center of the Universe sort of.

I believe most of those towers are now gone along the Dan Ryan. (They only went on for about 7 miles, it just seemd like 20.) Just another one of those failed social experiments. I don't know what genius thought it a good idea to stack dysfunctional folks one on top of the other, but it didn't work out. The rival gangs controlling various towers, would have aerial gun fights between them. It must have been fun.

thanks...I went looking around and had to push aside the fringe kook sites and the DARE propaganda to get info. I don't get how drug dealers made so much money if crack was so cheap. During the 1980s it seemed like crack was the modern day equivalent of the Influenza Panic. I know gangsta rap isn't the most entertaining genre of music but almost of all talk about crack.

My guess is that is was 'cheap' because it was so easy to be hooked. One of my relatives who was addicted said it only took one hit.

Most of the looters were not Hispanic, and a fair number were Anglos. I saw some looting a store in Hollywood on TV.

You'r right that it was a multi-racial riot. But the majority of looters were Hispanic. Unlike the blacks who were trying to burn down as many buildings as they could, they weren't mad about the Rodney King verdict. They just wanted in on a piece of the action. I read that one group of looters rented a car in Bakersfield and drove all the way to LA to loot.

Here are a couple of citations regarding the racial composition of the looters.

According to a Rand Corporation study blacks were not the majority of the rioters or the looters. Whites were prominently among the looters and the rioters, although the vast majority of the rioters and looters were Hispanic. . .

No. The Income list differentiates the two. Both Argentina and Haiti are developing nations, not developed. (2002/3 values, but now I'd call Haiti underdeveloped) but Haiti is a low income country while Argentina is a high middle income country
