New Eagle Scout

Last night Daniel Fox passed his Eagle Board of Review. He joined our Troop straight out of Cub Scouts after having earned his Arrow of Light. During his career in the Troop he has been Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He's been to summer camp 5 seasons, went to the last National Jamboree, and did a 10-day 95 mile high adventure trip out of Charles L. Sommers Canoe Base up into Quetico Provincial Park, earning the 50-Miler award and the Quetico Service award. He is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow. He took a 10-hour training course in how to set up and run rock climbing programs, and attended the Council Junior Leader Training course. He has taken Den Chief Training and has the Den Chief Award. He's been on dozens of Troop campouts and activities.

His Eagle Project consisted of renovating our Church's (and sponsor's) kitchen. The walls and ceilings got two coats of paint. The commercial-style exhaust fan and rotor was replaced and the external shutter was repaired. The kitchen sink's countertop and faucet were removed and replaced. Wall cabinets were purchased, assembled, and installed on one wall that did not have them. The endcap on a base cabinet countertop was replaced. And all the paint spatters and spills from the last 3 paint jobs were all cleaned up.

He has been on his high school's soccer, lacrosse, and math teams each of the last 4 years. He has been on the honor roll almost every semester. He will be matriculating at the University of Illinois' College of Engineering this fall.

I have been proud to be his Scoutmaster.

I am even prouder to be his father.

If anyone is considering a donation to the United Way, send instead to your local Boy Scout chapter.

Ditto that.

I know my boys are in good hands.

I must share this. Last week, we took our oldest to his first meeting. From the kids there, I actually encountered manners for the first time in years; several "yes sirs" and a couple of kids who actually displayed manners while waiting for an audience with adults. One Eagle Scout there invited us to his church. It was so refreshing. We've been homeschoolers for a few years and haven't been out much. My son didn't know what to expect, but it looks as though he is very interested in the program. I hope so because there aren't many other organizations like the Scouts that could reenforce what we are trying to instill.

Congratulations to both of you. You have every right to be very proud of him. To cap it off, I'll bet the time he spent in Quetico will be a memory he carries forever. A truly beautiful place.

Being a Cub Scout dad, my involvement with the Boy Scots is limited, but every one I've been in contact with seems mature beyond his years.

My daughters, who are a bit older have been involved with Girl Scouts. We also have a Home School Troop for them which is absolutely the only reason that I would allow them to be involved with Girl Scouts. If they were younger, I'd encourage them to look into American Heritage Girls, a new girls organization promoting traditional values without the PC influence of the Girl Scouts.

...without the PC influence of the Girl Scouts.

Yes, I have heard that there is a huge PC influence in the Girl Scouts, whereas the Boy Scouts have not budged in their beliefs, nor caved in to the threats.

Congragulations Dad and Son.

It is a great feeling to watch a boy mature thru the Scout Experience.

A few good American's founded this wonderful nation of ours. A few good American's can and will keep the lamp of liberty shining bright.

Congrats to Daniel from another Eagle Scout from Troop 857 at Hazel Goes Cook School in Chula Vista (April 1972). My project included safety inspections and licensing of over 500 bicycles over a 2 day period at 4 locations. Being an Eagle Scout is a plus on your resume...not to mention the practical skills learned on the way.

Way to go! Congratulations to your son and yourself.

From Pack 388. My son is currently a Webelo I and I am the Den Leader. He and several of his Den mates are close to their Arrow of Light. I feel honored to be the leader of these boys and know how proud it can make you feel to see them advance.

I only hope I have the same opportunity as you and get to watch my son soar to Eagle Scout. :-)

Quetico impressed my son so much that we have returned there 3 more times on family trips; he and I, and my brother and his son. We leave out of Atikokan and go south into the park (when you go out of the Scout base in Ely, Minn. you're going north). He's learned to catcy the wily walleye. Last year we portaged into a lake, caught walleye and lake trout, and fried them up on an island no more than 60' across in the middle of a 1 x 2 mile lake. He loves the place. I'll carry the memories of paddling in the sun and the rain with him in my bow until the day I die.

My son finished his project two weekends before his 18th birthday, with a MB left to finish. His application went into the Council office about 36 hours before his 18th birthday. I wouldn't recommend it, but it worked for him.

Congratulations Daniel, and Dad! The road to Eagle is one which few Scouts ultimately tread, so this is a major achievement!

Bravo Daniel! Great Job!!! As a scout who never made Eagle, I can attest to the difficulty and sacrifices involved. The BSA is an outstanding organization that builds character and turns boys into MEN. Shame on those that scheme against it.
