Famous financier and philanthropist George Soros was poured with glue and water at the conference "Human Rights at Elections" in Kiev.
Two young people came into the conference room and poured the panel members (including George Soros) with glue and water. They were shouting, "Long live to "Brotherhood!" (Ukrainian nationalistic movement) and "Soros, leave Ukraine, your plans will fail!"
Earlier, one of the young men tried to engage the conference participants in fight.
Policemen drove the two men out of the conference room. The incident postponed the beginning of the conference by 15 minutes.
"This is not just an accident, somebody planned this", said George Soros. However, he failed to name the incident organizers.
Simultaneously, the demonstration of opposition started in Kiev. 12 thousands supporters of "Our Ukraine" movement were going through downtown Kiev and demanding to increase salaries of public sector workers. This demonstration was part of the launched presidential election campaign. Ukrainian opposition wanted its sponsor to see its activity.
After NATO expansion Ukraine became the border state where the interests of Russia and the West are confronting. In this respect the presidential elections in October 2004 are very important. There are two leading candidates to become successors of President Kuchma - Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich and the leader of "Our Ukraine" movement Vladimir Yushenko supported by the West.
US politicians from the Democratic Party are paying special attention to Ukraine. A month ago former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright visited Kiev. On March 29 George Soros arrived in Ukraine.
Mr. Soros is known not only for his charity activity, but also as being a powerful and persistent politician. His attitude to the current US administration is so bad that he is ready to spend any money to overthrow President Bush. While waiting for his chance, the oligarch is training on smaller countries.
After landing in the Crimea, George Soros said he was surprised that Ukrainian authorities did not give him a warm welcome. He said that he was not going to make a revolution, like in Georgia, he was just promoting the idea of free, honest and fair presidential elections in the Ukraine. The official purpose of his trip is attending the conference "Human Rights at Elections" where more than one hundred human rights organizations participate.
A week ago the generous philanthropist said that he was ready to pay salaries to the entire Georgian government under the excuse of eradicating corruption in that country. Probably, George Soros came to Ukraine to learn if he could support financially Ukrainian government as well.
By visiting Ukraine, George Soros gave the start to the presidential election campaign in this country. Soros and the politicians close to him demonstrated their intention to conduct one more "velvet revolution". Ukrainian authorities frustrated the oligarch a little by ruining his expensive suit. Russia is the next to act. If Russia keeps silence, "velvet revolution" in Ukraine is inevitable. We can have one more "velvet state" on our border, and its government will get their salaries from Soros.
You don't hate Soros and you don't hate Pravda.
You "dispise" (sic) both.
Why didn't you say that to begin with?
No there is plenty of support. You have only to read Ziggy's books to know he is a slavophobe. I think Soros wished to destroy Holy Rus as well, but fortunately they were wise enough to evict him.
Are you denying that Soros was over there? Do you think he has any business meddling in Ukranian politics?
What has the origin of a newspaper got to do with whether Soros was over there? What have those whom you insultingly refer to as the "d_mn Joooos," got to do with anything in this article? (Do you claim Soros has some sort of theological mission--either for or against Biblical values? Your comment makes no sense, whatsoever, in relation to the subject of the thread.)
Your posts, here, really do make you sound a bit pathological.
It's understandable: you don't know that country, and theirs is not an easy culture to comprehend. That's how most of evil is perpetuated: for "normal," not corrupted people, it's hard to believe in its extent; they'd rather believe that the one speaking about it is "not well" or has a hidden agenda.
Are you denying that Soros was over there? Of course not. He has many reasons to be there --- and he was invited.
Do you think he has any business meddling in Ukranian politics? That depends on what constutues "meddling."
There are plenty of academic conferences in this country on American politics. There were special conferences on the role of the Supreme Court in the last election. These conferences are routinely populated by speakers from abroad. Some of them conclude that Supreme Court shouldn't have done what it did, etc. ---- are these people meddling in our affiars?
Of course not. Such discussions and conferences take place all the time. They are a part of an open society and considered abnormal only by people that want the society to close.
Fact: a conference was organized by the local committee, presumably consisting of Ukrainians. Fact: Soros was invited. Fact: Soros accepted an invitation and participated in a conference. That's all we know.
What has the origin of a newspaper got to do with whether Soros was over there?
You own position is a good answer. Behaviorists call this the "framing effect:" how one defines the problem oftern determines, by itself, the solutions that people will seek. The author wrote a hit peace, without even an attempt at providing facts. His agenda are not hidden at all: starting with the title, which to the Russian consumers reads: "The Jews that screwed up Russia in 1917 are doing that again." Protocols of the Elders of Zion in action.
It is you who should ask himself why you would so stoicly defend a paper that does not deviate from its bad reputation, publishes an anti-Semitic hit piece, provides in it not a single fact --- not even the name of the conference organizers --- and you defend it even after someone attracts your attention to these facts.
Is it possible that you simply share the same delusions? That's for you to know, however.
Certainly if some Russian national, living in Korea, came over here to participate in a seminar for American political actionists, on the actions of our Courts with respect to the Florida election in 2000, one could and probably should accuse him of meddling.
Frankly, Soros has been a controversial figure in the world of currency speculation for many years. You are the first person, whom I have ever encountered, who focused on the man's religious beliefs--assuming for the sake of argument that you are right about his. Most of us, who follow the financial markets, would have been a bit skeptical about George having any religious orientation, whatsoever.
You may have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed, and are simply spoiling for a fight--however ridiculous. But surely, there are better fights to get involved in than trying to defend George Soros. He is quite capable of defending himself, so far as that goes. But he is hardly a Conservative icon, who deserves support at Free Republic.

Yes. I am not suggesting to you that this is what the article is about: I am telling you that.
If you want further proof, learn Russian, read Pravda on your own, and learn some of that country's history.
Your reaction is precisely the reason why Europeans call us naive: reading between the lines is not indeed our forte. In your case, you cannot even recognize when someone can. Many Americans, who travelled in the former Soviet Union and were later told that EVERY SINGLE person they were in contact with reported to the KGB, also called such allegations delusional.
More disturbign is the fact that you cannot even recognize principle when you are looking at it:
But he is hardly a Conservative icon, who deserves support at Free Republic.
You take sides; you do not even bother to think of what is right. You will aligh yourself with the lowest of the low if its against someone you do not like. Nor you will bother with the facts: I did not say anything is support of Soros --- in fact, I even called him names (scum), which is not my usual way of expression. No matter: for people like you, it's about taking sides; if you are not against Soros, you are not with us.
Yours is a mentality of a Mogadishu mob, not of a patriotic American. I shall not be writing to you on this subject again.
Bingo. We dislike Soros here for many, many reasons. Like many I had no clue he was born Jewish until this thread.
Dennisw is Jewish and I count him as my friend, and he has no use for Soros. There is nothing anti_Semetic here. It is about Soros being the most evil man we can think of, as so many of us have posted.
I don't hate Soros and I don't hate Pravda......I dispise (sic) both.
Makes plenty sense, don't it?
And none of us believe it. There are plenty of anti-semetic groups out here in the Pacific Northwest. No need to look at Russian history to find this kind of hate, just come visit here - especially our large islamic population.
You are a western version of Tsar Peter, MarMena. He lived in the West in order to learn ship-building and that he did. He remained completely oblivious to the winds of individual freedom that were blowing hard all around him and remained a tyrant --- sometimes psychotic tyrant.
You too have live in Russia for some time (as you claim) and still have not a clue.
You are confused about who your enemy is.
