A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos) 3.29.2004

Bush presided Monday at a White House ceremony to greet the prime ministers of the new member nations along with NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

With the addition of Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia, NATO's membership grows from 19 countries to 26. The new members will take part in their first meeting Friday in Brussels. Three other nations - Albania, Croatia and Macedonia - hope to join.

NATO has agreed to include the Baltic states under its air defense shield, planning to enforce it by stationing four F-16 fighter planes in Lithuania.

The latest from Yahoo reads as follows:

President Bush welcomed seven former Soviet-dominated nations into NATO as "full and equal partners" on Monday and said the Western alliance was stronger because of their presence.

Under a bright sun on the White House South Lawn, Bush stood with the prime ministers of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Hundreds of people cheered. Some waved flags of the new member nations, whose addition expands the alliance to 26 countries.

A military honor guard carried the flags of the NATO countries.

Fifty-five years after NATO's birth, Bush recalled that the seven new members were "captives to an empire" when the alliance was formed.

Thanks.

Everytime I do this, and it takes the time it does to put all these pictures in order and not include duplicates, I am more and more appreciative of RWP's dedication for over 2-1/2 years!!!

Loved the pictures. It was a beautiful ceremony. I was rather touched by old Sandy Berger seeming to give Condi a bit of sympathetic attention.

I've found the cure for Spring Fever, In-law-itis, House-Never-Stays-Clean-Syndrome, Too-Many-Petsosis, and anything else that might ail you . . . plant some flowers!

I've been in a major funk the last week or so from all of the above. Late last week I bought a bunch of pansies and today I planted them! Five big pots for outside on the deck, and a bunch of little pots for in the house (two flats is a LOT of flowers!. Something about working with living things, the promise of a new life, getting my hands dirty, and the satisfaction of doing something that makes the world more beautiful . . . Right now I feel more at peace with the world than I have in a long, long time.

So, go to your local store, but a few flowers and some dirt and pots, and go to work. Guaranteed to lift your spirits (just like these wonderful pictures!).

Yep, that's the link. Did you find it as hysterically funny as I did??

Thanks for the "how to put a link in a post" info. I didn't know it was that easy! :-)

Lovely, happy pictures tonight!

Anyone: Did anyone catch what Brit said about the segment that 60 Minutes edited out of last nights interview with Condi Rice?

The phone rang. My friends still don't understand that the 6:30-7:00 hour is nearly sacred for me. LOL

***I was rather touched by old Sandy Berger seeming to give Condi a bit of sympathetic attention.***

I missed the 60 Minutes interview. Was it really bad? I saw a really short clip on one of the alphabet shows but didn't hear what they said. That Bradley dude really annoys me with his smirk and silly earring.

If I would have known it would have made me feel THIS much better, I would have done it weeks ago! These will keep blooming for awhile so I'll really enjoy them.

I heard it and it went out of my memory bank.It was good stuff and I just don't recall the details. The reason he reported it was because it was a hatchet editing job.

My, the PM of Romania is an attractive man.

I shared a locker w/an immigrant from Romania when I was in law school (late 70s). She and her family had escaped due to persecution for being Jewish.

I was starting the conversion process at the time and knew more about Judaism than she did. She often turned to me for advice on customs and holydays.

I can't believe I'm seeing countries such as Latvia and Romania joining NATO. I have *fond* memories of being a school child in DC and hiding under my desk as we practiced for a nuclear attack. Everything isn't perfect w/our eastern European friends, but boy, the world sure has changed.

Thanks for tonight's Dose. What a great day! I used to work with a man who was Lithuanian. He always grieved for his country. He must be so thrilled at how far they've come.
