What's your favorite flag of the world? Least favorite?

Some time ago, browsing through my friend's atlas, I realised that there are significant differences in quality between the flags of different countries. Some are good, some are bad. Some countries have clearly taken care in the choice of colours, layout, and design. Others have been lazy, stolen the flags of their neighbours, or just designed flags that are clearly supposed to cause pain to those who look at them.
To my surprise, there is no international body responsible for upholding simple standards of vexillilic aesthetics. Nor do the UN or Interpol have the power to call in and punish those responsible for such atrocities as the Brazilian or Cypriot flags. I suppose there is probably a conspiracy of rich western nations (those with permanent seats on the UN security council, no doubt) to prevent such crimes from being brought to justice; however, in the meantime I am giving letter grades to the existing flags of the world.

You know, he devised a methodology and stuck to it and kept it 100% within the aesthetic arena. I give big points for accomplishing what he set out to do.
If you disagree, then the onus is on you to disgree in terms of the methodology or go out and create your own methodology and explain why it is superior.
I was impressed and, most importantly, amused. I especially like the "corporate logo" and "weapons!" categories.

No flag is more beautiful or meaningful than Old Glory. If our flag is so beautiful, why did the artist feel the need to draw fewer stars on it than there should have been? (or is that just a really old painting?)

Thanks, my direct male-line ancestors were Gonzales settlers and played a respectable role in the fight for Texas freedom. Look for the name McCullough or McCulloch.

Favorite. Green Knight, you've just persuaded me on Macedonia as my favorite international flag. I also like any of the older European flags with a Cross. Favorite State flags... Ohio, Arizona, and California. Most odious current flag: |

The point isn't what I believe.
Our government by flying that flag is saying they believe there are.

No flag is more beautiful or meaningful than Old Glory. I think one of it's greatest moments was when it was put on Hussein's statue last year by one of our troops. Not because the victory over Iraq was one of our greatest victories, but because the whole world was watching and it p****d off all the jealous nations big time.

If I have been late in years in becoming a son of the south, I would never have believed I'd be making the statement about a flag of the Confederacy that I'm about to, but in this case, you've convinced me it's so.
Down with that Rebel Banner, I say!

The United States flag is just a perfect flag. Disclaimer: I may be prejudiced. With one proviso: it's at its best when whipped by the wind and fully extended, or nearly so. At rest and hanging limply, it's nowhere near as impressive or inspiring.
Interestingly, that may also be a pretty fair description of the American spirit as well, much more impressive fully at work rather than at rest, and so the flag may well be more appropriate for that characteristic.

I like this one best. Nice little one, but kind of difficult to see from a height.

This one (sorry it's pointing right to left): Don't worry about it. It's got some mighty good company, old and new.
