Proverbs 2
1 My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
3Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5Then you will understand the fear of the LORD,
And find the knowledge of God.
6For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
8He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.
9Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.
10When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
11Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you,
12To deliver you from the way of evil,
From the man who speaks perverse things,
13From those who leave the paths of uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness;
14Who rejoice in doing evil,
And delight in the perversity of the wicked;
15Whose ways are crooked,
And who are devious in their paths.
We thank You for giving us Your word for instruction and for correction; it gives us peace and comfort when we are fearful or battered by the world. It tells us those things You would have us know about You and Your love for us, culminating in the sacrifice of Your Son for us on the Cross. It teaches us how to live; it lights our path; and it assures us of Your constancy as we face an ever-changing world. Lord, You are so good to us and we are so undeserving. Forgive us and show us how You would have us live for You. Accept our humble praise, O Lord, for Your goodness and Your mercy!
Father, we are often at a loss for words but Solomon has expressed so well our petitions for our President. Let George W. Bush seek understanding and wisdom and discernment as the most valuable of talents. Keep him on bended knee, humbled before You, always acknowledging Your omnipotence. Deliver him from those who speak perverse things about him; let Your truth prevail. Be a shield to Laura, who must be hurting at the lies and distortions about her husband. Let her seek comfort in You. Form a hedge of protection around both of them that no weapon formed against them may prosper.
Lord, we also pray for our other government leaders. Let the truth be in them and gird them with wisdom and selflessness. Thwart the plans of those who would destroy these men and women for mere political advantage. As we continue in this election season, we beg You to favor those who seek Your face and call Your name and who know by Whom our inalienable rights are granted.
Even as many troops are headed home, others are being deployed. Provide safe passage for all of them as they travel. Help those who are returning home to adjust to the vast differences in their lives here from what they have been experiencing. And protect those who are just now going to hostile places. Comfort those military families who are now bereaved and heal those men and women who have been injured. Give courage and peace to all those who have family members in the armed forces.
We rejoice at the passage of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. Though it is but one small step in the right direction, it is a step towards the protection of the unborn. There are many more abominations being permitted in our society though and we ask for Your forgiveness. Renew our land and revive in us a desire to seek Your will, to obey Your commandments, and to glorify Your name. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Thank You, Lord for the words of that beautiful hymn ... You are a place of comfort sweet ... a place of joy and peace. We covet that quiet place in these thunderous times, O God. May this be the portion of our beloved President ... may he find You in these quiet places so that he may lead in these thunderous times. Grant him joy and peace when the world would hand him destruction and devastation. We hold him before the Throne of Grace, Lord, seeking Your full protection over him and his beloved family, his administration and all those who name him before You. May his critics be silenced in shame as he shows his love for each son and daughter who has served our country ... as he gives honor and respect to each citizen ... as he seeks only what is good for his fellow man. You have blessed us with leadership that acknowledges You as Sovereign ... may Your merciful hand continue to rest upon us, else we perish under ungodly rule.
May there be peace within the walls of Your beloved Jerusalem this night, O Lord ... may all those who love her, prosper ... may all those who seek her destruction, be destroyed. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...
O God of mercy, we beg You now to protect in a special way those who are fighting for us and for the country we love. Bless them and take care of them. If they are tired, give them strength. If they are wounded and suffering, give them comfort. If they are lonely, touch them with Your gentle hand that let them know that You are near them. Amen.
