FR DNS problems...

DNS lookups failing for FR here - no such host. Apparently I'm not the only one, judging from a glance at the Yahoo FR board. Dunno if it's my ISP (Verizon) or what, but I had to manually edit the hosts file to get here. Presumably, if you can post, you're not having this problem, but there are more than a few people who can't post right now because of it...

Why did this happen in the first place? it was by luck that I found out about the "back door" to FR.

I was able to log in for a few minutes and now I can't. I had that happen this morning. Transient short in the gravitonic chamber of the flux capacitor, I expect.

DNS in sunny California is back up and running this hour.

The same thing happened to MyFamily.com about a year ago, so I don't suspect it was malicious - just one of those things. I could be wrong though.

Of course!!!
Now, why didn't I think of that?

It's a fiendishly subtle problem sometimes. Somebody fetch me a can of WD-40, some duct tape, and a wire coathanger - I'll have this bad boy back up in no time... ;)

I'm at work now and using proxies; mostly offshore locations. The new info seems to be propagating through those boxes.

VZ is back up for me - this is just about when it went out yesterday, so obviously they have their servers on a 24 hour cycle. Try it and see if you're up also.

Couldn't log on all day yesterday. Suffered the bins from not being able to log onto FR. Withdrawal was a b*tch! Horrible day!

Seems like it's about a 24 hour cycle for most people so far. Of course, there are probably still some folks in the dark...

Interesting stats:
Almost 2 million visits yesterday (54% of total) lasted less than 30 seconds, apparently just long enough to get told that FR didn't exist!
The biggest link to FR yesterday (except from search engines) came from our buddies at DU!

They do a lot of research here; we do none there. There's a clue in that.
