FR DNS problems...
today | self

Posted on 03/25/2004 7:48:57 AM PST by general_re

DNS lookups failing for FR here - no such host. Apparently I'm not the only one, judging from a glance at the Yahoo FR board. Dunno if it's my ISP (Verizon) or what, but I had to manually edit the hosts file to get here. Presumably, if you can post, you're not having this problem, but there are more than a few people who can't post right now because of it...

Earthlink is now UP. They must update every 24 hours or so, because FR went down for me about 8:30 MST yesterday.

I'm holding out for VZ, but I'll add that to the list later on if I still don't get anything.

Mac OS9 - http://www.modwest.com/help/kb8-52.html Mac OSX (and possibly Linux/Unix) - http://peter.nyc.ny.us/docs/macosx.html

No matter what your platform, you can always bypass DNS by browsing to the IP directly.

Same here. It was OK about an hour ago but the usual URL has now gone down again. (Edinburgh, Scotland.)

Howdy ! Bookmark this to your FAVORITES:

Yahoo! Groups FreeRepublic2

Anytime that you ever have trouble getting on FR, go there. If other folks are having trouble, you'll see posts by Freepers there.

LOOK for posts from John Robinson (or perhaps Jim Robinson). He is real good to post there so folks know what the problems are and how long before the problem is resolved, etc.

Yesterday, John Robinson posted THIS message for us.

You should now be able to log into the site via our IP address.

We're waiting on GKG to press some buttons and turn us back on. But I wouldn't be surprised if this took hours on their part. :-(
