Clarke Book Takes 9/11 Commission by Surprise
Newsmax ^ | 3-22-04 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 03/22/2004 1:55:17 PM PST by truthandlife

A spokesman for the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks said Monday that he was aware that former Clinton administration terrorism czar Richard Clarke was writing a book about the 9/11 attacks, but was surpised to learn that its release would be timed to coincide with Clarke's testimony before the panel.

"I had heard that he had a book coming out," Commission spokesman Al Felzenberg told NewsMax.com. "But I had no idea when it was coming out."

Asked if Commission Chairman Thomas Kean or Vice Chairman Lee Hamilton were concerned that Clarke would be using his appearance to help publicize his book, Felzenberg said, "I don't know what to say about that."

"I know the publisher was very active in this and [Clarke's book] was embargoed for some time," he added. Simon & Schuster decided to release Clarke's book on the eve of the Commission's hearing on terrorism policy before the 9/11 attacks.

"He's one of eight witnesses and his testimony will be given the same weight as the other seven will," the Commission spokesman insisted.

Felzenberg said there was no thought given to postponing Clarke's appearance, though it undoubtedly will be used to generate additional publicity for his book.

"He'll be testifying on the second day. He's following Rumsfeld and Powell and some very important people. He's one of eight - he's not leading it off," Felzenberg stressed.

When asked whether Clarke would be questioned about a CIA videotape broadcast by NBC News last week showing that the Clinton administration had Osama bin Laden in its crosshairs but failed to act, Felzenberg said, "We can't comment on materials before the committee."

Probably the most important commision in the history of our country and the Democrats are manipulating it for political gain. Clarke's testimony will coincide with what he wrote in his book. Next, we will see selective parts of the 9/11 commision's work leaked to the press. Of course, the parts that are leaked will paint Bush in a negative light and will somehow coincide with Clarke's testimony. But, the press will report it as follows: "Today, information from the 9/11 commision would seem to back up charges that President Bush did little to prevent the 9/11 attacks. CBSABCNBCCNN has obtained confidential parts of the 9/11 commision's report. . . ." Nevermind that it will merely be a repeat of the Clarke book as expressed by Clarke in his testimony to the 9/11 panel.

Clarke's book is just the first strike, Kerry Campaigning by alternative means.

Next strike is Amb. Joe Wilson's book, which is comng out April 30.

Today's Wall Street Journal editorial deconstructs the Commission pretty comprehensively. Nothing but a bunch of incompetent toadies. The "second string" as the WSJ called the members. Pathetic.

I agree it's got Kerry's fingerprints all over it, but methinks it may just backfire on the RATS!! We're in a War on Terrorism, and all the RATS can do is snipe about how we ain't doing it just right.

I've got major issues with Dubyuh's outta control spending and am seriously considering voting fer the Constitution Party candidate, but the DemonRATS' unfair attack on Dubyuh for his very successful War on Terrorism is forcing me to be that much more supportive of Dubyuh in the upcoming campaign!! Wonder what percentage of the electorate will feel similarly?

Clarke's work of fiction was originally scheduled to come out in the latter part of April. They pushed up the release date to coincide with the hearings.

Bottom scrapers.

This is part of the fallout from McCain-Feingold. Most people here knew from the beginning that this law would drive political money under the table. Working openly through the party would become illegal, so the parties would set up false flag operations, and set up their own media operations (hardly necessary for the Dems, but why not). Since media and non-party organizations are left largely alone, that is where the money would go. The result being that it is now much harder than before to prove a connection, even if it is logically obvious.

Another thing that has changed is the tendency to treat every step in the political process as a war to the finish. Under such conditions absolutely everything is politicized, and if every thing is war, the Repubs had better show up prepared to fight.

One only has to substitute Republican for Democrat in this story AND instantaneously the "Tremendous failing of the Bush Administration concerning 911" would turn into an attack on the messenger himself. The entire major news media would be asking questions about the TIMING of this book as it appears on the eve of his testimony before the 911 commission and about the fact that he previously worked in an Administration that did NOTHING against Terrorism for 8 years.

All the questions that conservative talk radio is ASKING today would be the MANTRA of the main stream media. The BIAS is palpable.

Yes, I agree completely. Want to venture a guess how many copies of Clarke's book George Soros will buy? 500,000, 1,000,000? Soros and his buddies will make sure Clarke's book remains on the bestsellers list until November.

Kerry and Heinz operatives are redefining Iraq. Essentially, nothing happened before Bush II, and "allies" weren't invited because of the badness and arrogance of BushII.

Bush's people would need to place Iraq in the long context, and the context of going back to the UN, France's "no", etc. etc. etc.

Yup, you got it.

But never, ever underestimate the dynamic duo of American politics, either.

Fortunately in the Presidential race the republicans are not involved. My money is on the Bushies to continue to out flank the socialists(the so- called Dems) - Tom

I wonder if you actually have to take possession, or if you can just buy futures? Like pork bellies? Just pay 10cents on the dollar and then default on the contract rather than actually have tons of pork bellies showing up at your apartment... Because otherwise there are summer-hire-interns busy as bees loading tons of Hillary's books into furnaces, or rented warehouses. If Bill Clinton comes out with his book, we may be able to start building cogen's that run on block-purchased best-sellers...
