L.A. TIMES DOES LEFT WING B.S. PARTISAN PUFF PIECE ON KERRY AND KANSAS CITY MEETING

I had reported last week that at least two major newspapers and one news magazine was working on the story of John Kerry's attendance at a VVAW meeting in Kansas City on Nov. 12-15, 1971. According to Tom Lipscomb of the NY SUN, the assassination of U.S. senators was discussed at that meeting.
One of the newspapers has spoken. It is the L.A. TIMES. John Glionna has written a Kerry-defending puff piece, FBI Shadowed Kerry During Activist Era. In 2163 words, he did not mention assassination, senators, or Scott Camil.
This was nothing but partisan crap journalism. The biggest hit on Kerry was the following:
Previously, Kerry had denied being at the Kansas City gathering. But the FBI files, along with interviews with former VVAW members, indicate that he attended at least some portion of the meetings, using the occasion to resign his post as one of the group's national coordinators.
"I still have no memory of a Kansas City meeting.
"I have this stark memory of the humidity that day [I resigned from VVAW]
. I just remember forever a dark storm brewing, with these huge thunderhead clouds."
But his recollection was that he resigned at the St. Louis meeting. "And every reminder we have since then has put it there, including Nicosia's book," he said.
I am pretty sure that I would have a recollection of a meeting at which I resigned because some of my friends advocated murdering senators.
If anyone wants to phone Mr. Glionna to give him your opinion, FReepmail me.

It would be helpful to get the names of the seven senators who were potential targets for assassination out in public view. That would make it very much more difficult for the mass media to bury the story.

Well, be sure to cross that guy off your list of reporters to call next time you get a big story.

I have a question... How come the LA Times leaves out everything Kerry says he forgot?

It wasn't "according to Tom Lipscomb." It was according to the author of the "definitive history" HOME TO WAR Gerald Nicosia that we have the most detail on the assassination plot.

I spoke with an editor. She assigned the story to this partisan hack.

I gave the guy Tom as the source. He apparently didn't want any real background, but instead went to Kerry for background. Gee, does Kerry have a vested interest in lying about this?

Even for the LA Times, this is a remarkable article. The whole thrust of it is that the FBI was violating Kerry's rights by investigating him. Geeze, the guy was a party to an assassination plot against United States Senators. I am sure glad he was under surveillance

Tower and Stennis were two of them.

It is remarkable. He turned it totally around and made Kerry the victim of an FBI investigation.

Are any of their close aides at the time still alive? It would be helpful for one of those aides to go public about this story.
To: John Thornton
I'm beginning to believe that Kerry was sent home from Vietname early (under the cover of the phony Purple Hearts) and started the VVAW to avoid being prosecuted by the Navy for war crimes. It looks like he did kill innocent Vietnamese as he testified before Congress, but this was all a clever way to avoid being court-martialed like Calley.

The list of seven Senators to be assassignated was posted in a previous FR thread. As I recall, Senator Jesse Helms and Senator "Scoop" Jackson were included. The
L.A. Times and its reporter are lame-*ss excuses for news people, on this story.
They cannot be so stupid and blind not to know the Internet and book reports that the assassignation of seven Senators was discussed and brought to a vote at this meeting. To write a 2,000-word article about this meeting and NOT mention the most explosive thing that occurred at that meeting, does way beyond journalistic malpractice and all the way to deliberate public lying. Lying by omission, to be sure, but lying nonetheless.
Thank you for your post of this article. I will use it in my next column, "Clear Eye for the Hate Guy."
Cordially,
Congressman Billybob

Journalism? This is a travesty. Pravda was more truthful.
We cannot let this "Pay no attention to the facts behind the curtain" reporting stand. It is not right to have any presidential nominee, let alone a current senator, who once participated in a serious vote to kill senators. "At least he voted 'Nay'" is not going to cut it.
And they turned KERRY into the VICTIM here, pursued by the eeeevil FBI! My gosh, he was involved in a plot about assassination; I am GLAD they were tailing him!
Also, they say that he resigned "from the VVAW." That is false and should be corrected (in a teeny blurb on page A34...). He resigned from that one post, but he was still quoted as "head of the VVAW" some two years later. He was still a spokesman and said so at the time.
