Troop Prayer Thread 10 - A Year of VICTORY!
Posted on 03/19/2004 12:51:59 PM PST by TEXOKIE
THREE CHEERS FOR OUR WONDERFUL TROOPS, THEIR ALLIES, AND ALL WHO ARE SERVING IN SUPPORT CAPACITIES IN THE WAR ON TERROR! YOU HAVE GIVEN THIS NATION A YEAR OF VICTORY IN THAT WAR! The honor is yours, but know that we bask in your accomplishments and love you for your steadfast service on this day!
Welcome, everyone to the 10th Troop Prayer Thread! Today is the anniversary of the resumption of hostilities with Iraq, wherein our troops have made military history that shall ring down the centuries.
The troop prayer threads are dedicated to giving our troops, allies, and all who are serving the Holy Cause of Freedom, including (but not limited to) the families and loved ones waiting at home and those who are not in uniform but who are serving in dangerous situations supporting our troops and gathering intelligence spiritual support. We seek together to offer prayer, scriptures, encouraging messages, and other devotions dedicated to this purpose.
We have over the past year gathered together a prayer list of these servants of freedom. You will find it posted below. FReeper amom has been serving as our List Keeper this past year and I wish to thank and commend her for doing such a meticulous job of keeping it updated. She has also been keeping our ping list up to date. If you wish to submit a name for the prayer list or to add or take off a name from the ping list, please let either or both of us know.
For those of us who have somewhat limited computer capacity, or still have phone modems, we request that graphics be limited to pictures of loved ones for whom we are offering prayers, special visuals that seem particularly appropriate, and as much as possible, non-moving graphics. Thank you.
Thank you so much for spiritually supporting our troops, allies, support civilians, and their families.
We are grateful to God that for those who have been injured or taken back Home, He has dispatched angels to their care.

Dear Lord,
Lest I continue
My complacent way
Help me remember
Somewhere out there
A man died for me today
--As long as there be war
I then must
Ask and answer
Am I worth dying for?"
Taken from the book, "A Man Called Intrepid" by William Stevenson about William Stephenson, the head of British intelligence services prior to and during WWII. He wrote this at the very beginnings of the Battle of Britain and shared it with Eleanor Roosevelt.
STAR SPANGELED BANNER
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Thanks, Rags. I think he said many things which were true and moving...but unfortunately, there did seem to be evidence that causes one to justifiably question if his words and actions were sincere. If he has suffered a genuine loss, I think no one here would begrudge prayers and the Lord's comfort in that event. I join you in letting our Father be his ultimate judge...because I am simply not equipped!
I had not realized that he was helping you with your work to assemble the good news articles. I hope someone else will step up to offer a hand.

PRAYER REQUEST:
Our Tonk (68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub) has requested that we pray for our Viet Nam vets.
"Please pray for Viet Nam era vets.
Hanoi Kerry has opened old wounds."
MERCIFUL HEAVENLY FATHER,
We place before you the heroes of a day gone by. We ask that you will heal the many wounds and pain of these whose service and sacrifice was disdained and unappreciated for far too long.
Father, these magnificent men stepped up to the plate and when our nation called, they went to war. The innocence of our nation was sullied in that day by those who hated America and used her goodness against her. Father, we as a nation have experienced what it is to succumb to the appeasement consciousness. Many have learned the lesson that the things which came to pass in that era ought not to be. Let those lessons be learned by all.
We ask, Father, that you will enfold the men and women of that era who served and heal them of effects of the hatred and disdain which was directed at them. Help them to understand that they were targets for that hatred not because of any truth of those hurtful words, but because of the Light which they bore in the name of Freedom and this nation. Help them to understand that there were those who had their hands on the levers of power who misused that power and caused our troops to suffer humiliation and loss of morale when the truth was that they actually DID have Victory on that battlefield but were betrayed. Father, we ask that you will judge your righteous judgement upon those who are responsible in any way for the tearing from this generation of warriors their just Victory and the laurel wreaths which was their right to wear.
Father, we ask that you will send to the hearts of that generation's warriors the love and appreciation that comes from our hearts and which has been earned by them in honor and blood. We can never repay them for their service, nor can we repay the debt of gratitude we owe them for bearing the burdens of the hatred of America which was nakedly unleashed upon them at that time.
Father, we ask that you will grant this nation mercy for the ignorance and weakness which caused this precious group of warriors to not be supported. Let our people know and understand perfectly and permanently the true lessons of that day, that whenever we send our boys (and girls) into battle that they deserve ALL the support we can possibly give them. Let the warriors of the Viet Nam generation be granted healing for the darkness which they were required to experience. They truly have fought the battles of Viet Nam for many years, because of this nation's ignorance in allowing the Manipulators and Haters of America access to the levers of power. This was a mistake and must not happen again, even though there are those who are seeking to reenact this upon our present generation of warriors.
Father, we ask in strongest and most urgent terms that you will take command and SHATTER the designs of those who wish to tear from our young people their Victories in the War on Terror! Let the sacrifice of our Viet Nam veterans holding the line and bearing this burden all these years be the instrument and evidence brought before your Judgement seat which will require of those who are of the Father of Lies their judgement by your hand. We claim the Victory which was ours in Viet Nam and we call for its sealing! We claim the Victory in the War on Terror and we call for its sealing! Let not the betrayers of America ultimately win in either case!
We ask that you will enter into this entire situation of the Presidential race. Let the wounds of those who were Viet Nam troops which are being torn open in the process of this race be bound and healed with the unguent of your perfect peace and love. Let our Lord who came with a Sword provide the separating of the Truth and the Lie for our people. Intercede, Father, and take command of this nation and her levers of power. Father, your divine Plan and Vision for this nation is what we affirm and desire for our people. Guide us, blessed Father in this hour!
Father, we are grateful that you hear us and we do place our nation and all our troops and our precious veterans on the altar and ask that you will guide our leaders and all of us in the days to come. Let ONLY your divine Will be done.
Amen

I am sorry, Tonkin.
Thank you, TEXOKIE.
Joining you in prayer for our Vietnam veterans, with thanksgiving, and gratitude.
They helped prepare this generation to fight the Enemy in more than one arena, and suffered so that others would see the injustice done to them and be inspired to fight alongside these champion Veterans for our troops, and against the same Enemy today.
Amen!
