Dean: Bush responsible for deaths in Spain
Union Leader ^ | 3/17/04 | NEDRA PICKLER

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean said Tuesday that President Bush's decision to send troops to Iraq appears to have contributed to the bombing deaths of 201 in Spain.

A growing international investigation is focusing on Islamic militants possibly linked to al-Qaida as the culprits in the Madrid train bombings last Thursday.

European intelligence agencies are trying to identify a purported al-Qaida operative who claimed in a videotape that the group carried out the bombings to punish Spain for backing of the U.S.-led war in Iraq. The tape was discovered in a trash bin near Madrid's largest mosque on Saturday after a telephone tip to a Madrid TV station.

Dean referred to the videotape when asked whether he was linking U.S. troops in Iraq to the deaths in Spain.

"That was what they said in the tape," Dean said. "They made that connection, I'm simply repeating it."

Dean's comment came as he was defending former rival John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, from a Bush campaign ad accusing Kerry of turning his back on U.S. soldiers fighting in Iraq.

Dean said it is the president who has not supported the troops. He said Bush sent soldiers to Iraq unequipped, misled the country on the reasons for war and made the United States less safe by focusing on a target that wasn't a threat. And, he said, "The president was the one who dragged our troops to Iraq, which apparently has been a factor in the death of 200 Spaniards over the weekend."

Dean issued a statement later to The Associated Press that said, "Let me be clear, there is no justification for terrorism. Today I was simply repeating what those who have claimed responsibility for the bombings in Spain said was the reason they carried out that despicable act."

Dean was speaking on a conference call arranged by Kerry's campaign. Campaign spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said, "We aren't in a position to say that Spain's support for the war in Iraq made them a target."

"Governor Dean was simply repeating what's already been reported by news organizations about a group that claims responsibility for the enormous tragedy in Spain," she said. "It's clear that what happened in Spain is a painful reminder that the war on terror is far from over and the nation would be better off if this administration took the time to rebuild our alliances rather than engaging in political attacks."

It also shows that there are enough voting loons to provide a platform for these jokers to be heard from.

Kerry's pitbull....Dean...can be counted to to lash out and make outrageous attacks on Bush, while Kerry doesn't have to say a word. I hope the voters see who's holding the leash here.

Thank you for that, we do notice they said these kids talked often with their parents.
That may be responsible for the teacher's union cult not having total control of their minds.

I was just thinking the same thing. Let him keep talking. He's doing such a good job defining the idiocy of the dems, if I didn't know better, I'd think Rove planted Dean there himself. Oh, but the best line was the poor stoogette trying to cover for Dean:

"It's clear that what happened in Spain is a painful reminder that the war on terror is far from over and the nation would be better off if this administration took the time to rebuild our alliances rather than engaging in political attacks."

If I had a dime for every time they tried to cover up one of their own assinine attacks by accusing Bush of ANOTHER political attack, I'd be rich by election eve. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall when they tried to come up with a response to this Dean gaff.

What person would see this doctor who is such a fool?

America is in open war and NATO is cowardly.

These socialist utopians cannot or will not see that islam has declared open war on The West using war crimes because The West has refused to fight a war. Bush's America is unpopular because we fight when NATO is passive and EU leaders are rich from taking oily arab bahksheesh (Arabic for money under the table.).

Madrid may be the cheapest Blitzkrieg in history. Vichy Spain. Pitiful Portugual. No wonder Franco ruled those people so easily. Spaniards roll over.

What will the Frenchy French do?

I thought Al Qaeda had nothing to do with Iraq. Now we hear from Howie its Bush's making Iraq a safe haven for Al Qaeda that screwed things up in Spain. No, its Bush's fault! Man, the Democrats really are a piece of work!!!

I hope Dean's comments get lots of airplay -- they inadvertently highlight the connection between Al Qaeda and Iraq that the Dems are still denying!

"That was what they said in the tape," Dean said. "They made that connection, I'm simply repeating it."

Dean is a certifiable kook. To think that he was the #1 choice of Democrats until the media and the Clintons took him out.

Physician heal thyself.

Dean is off his meds again and needs to write himself another prescription.

Ask Dems that question, and watch all the fidgeting, equivocating, denying, and outright lying occur. The reality, as Dems know in their hearts is true, Al-Qaeda and Iraq are part of the same war on terrorism. I'm sure like me you aren't holding your breath waiting for Dems to admit to that undeniable reality.

We want this "loone" to be "PRIME TIME" in Beantown (during the dim-o-dump convention)!!!

"We are going to march to Washington (with our Al Qaeda brothers) and take back the Whitehouse in November... AAAIIIIIIYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH"!!!

I would love to be a fly on the wall at a dinner party, and have Dean-o and Michael Moore seated next to each other. "Uhh Mikey, please pass the tin-foil. Thanks"!

Open your eyes and ears friend! The forum is full of reference articles (this morning) that show that the battle has been joined. The "plan" will be as hard hitting and as devastating to the dims, as the much decried (by all of the talking heads before the war) Iraq war plan was to the Iraqi military.

Some people let their pessimism work overtime. Keep your eyes, ears, and mind open...many beautiful things are beginning to unfold.

DING! DIING! DING! We have a winner!

The first leading Dem to say Bush is responsible is Howard Dean. Called this one last week.

Liberals are so predictable.

"I wish I had your confidence".

This saying on FR has become threadbare. The solution to it resides within you. Open your eyes, ears, and mind. There is far more to be "thankful" for today, than two weeks ago. Many good things are in movement. The administration is starting to do what we all have been asking them to do. The results show that it is working.

CBS has even muted the findings of their own poll today!!! It shows President Bush ahead of kerry by 8 points!!!

That's not kookie, that's how his followers, and most democrats, think. We will be hearing a drumbeat of criticism from many others, including the press, wanting to blame the president for Spain's attack.
