Seems appropriate to bring out that old joke:
"How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris?"
Ans. "No one knows . . . it's never been done."

EXACTLY!
"I know the bright burning flame burned me last time, but maybe it'll just tickle my fingers this time..."
Bullies act the same on the playground and the world stage. Fight back - the situation can only get better with resistance.

But, but...France didn't support us in the war in Iraq! Could it be that the Islamists just hate the West, and they don't really need an excuse to attack? Surely not.

I think a policy of neutrality in the coming war between France and Islam is best. After all, we wouldn't want to incur any attacks on us.

I have a question for all the military persons on this thread...others are welcome to opine.
Question: Just how bad is it gonna get when the bad guys really get down an dirty. U.S. cities? World cities? On my block?
Just wondering what others think about it.

I hope they won't be too upset if we sit on the sidelines and watch....OMG, do you think they'll pull their troops out of Iraq?
Oh wait, wrong country, that is Spain. France is too busy trying to hold on to their former African colonies like the Ivory Coast.

Three levels-
1st level, everything you've seen tossed at Israel, against similar targets- defenseless men, women, and children. Anyplace, anytime, anyone.
2nd level- biological... the anthrax attacks were the precursor.
3rd level, dirty nukes, surplus nukes ( the second not too likely, IMO ) or possibly fuel-air effect bombs in harbors-- the Big Bang, in other words.
Remember ( again thinking of Israel ) we have to be good and lucky every single time...
Terrorists only have to be good and get lucky once...

I thought France was insulated from terror attacks because they were against the War in Iraq. Yeah, I thought the same thing. I think it would be silly for AQ to attack France. France is already on AQ's side.

And the next sound we hear will be the riffling of bank-notes as the Froggies try to pay off the terrorists. That's a pretty good chance

I thought the terrorists only attacked countries that were participants in the war on terror.

Thanks for your clear, concise thoughts. I think I get it. Think Israel and what they have been through. It is hard to cognize that sitting in a local Starbucks could cost you more than the latte. But, I guess that is the way more and more Americans are going to have to think. No more Code White...more Code Orange. Massad Ayoob's code, not Ashcroft's.

This is such B.S. Since when do any of these "terror threats" turn into actual terrorist actions? The answer, of course, is never. Every major Islamist attack comes completely unannouced, and catches everyone (including the "intelligence" community) totally by surprise. I suspect this pattern will continue. In fact, the strength of terrorism lies in its unpredictability.
