Asked last week if she had decided to spend "any of your own fortune" on the presidential race, Heinz Kerry initially told National Public Radio's Renee Montagne, "I cannot, by law; $2,000 is it, and I've said that so many times."

She may be only able to give $2,000 to candidate Kerry but she can give to many other leftist organizations that mobilize the troops, run issue advocacy ads, attack President Bush, etc.

Teresa funded the group behind the 9/11 ads "outrage". The media doesn't care.

Thank you, thank you

I didn't do anything here except exercise ordinary care and diligence in making sure this wasn't a crock. We get a fair amount of crockery around here, because some people value outrage over having their facts straight.

There was a thread here a year or so ago from some guy who announced that he had "heard on the short wave" that some commie pinko in the South Carolina legislature had just introduced a bill that would repeal the hard-won "must issue" law concerning CCW permits. Basically that law said that unless you were a mental case or a convicted felon, the Sheriff was required to give you a permit.

And now this guy wants to repeal it. Let's get him!

What amazes me is how many people will grab their torch and their pitchfork without even checking to see if this guy knows what he's talking about. By the time I saw this thread, 40 people had already signed up to write to the legislature and the Governor to stop this law.

It so happens that South Carolina is one of the states that has all its legislation on line. So I could actually dig this thing up and see what it said. (So could anyone else. But nobody did.) Yes, it repealed the entire section concerning "must issue" CCW permits. In fact it abolished CCW permits altogether. That last part is key, because the whole purpose of the law was to make it so that no one needed a permit to carry in South Carolina. It was your right as a citizen to carry a weapon, and the state would henceforth have nothing to say about it. That's what the proposed new law did.

I never followed it to see if it passed, but here were a whole bunch of Freepers ready to rain death on this law because some guy had come in here without bothering to check his facts.

So I have been paranoid about that since.

>Does anyone else feel like the Heinz son is kicking his dead father in the head by switching to become a liberal democrat?

That's what they get when the orginal industrialists tried to avoid paying taxes by setting up these foundations. They were just gathering the money for leftists to spend.

Note to future industrialists, just pay the taxes and control the money outright or spend it now while you know whats going to be done with it.

Or try a quickie..   :)

You are indeed correct - obviously it's been a while since Heinz updated its website. Thanks for the heads up - I did not know that McDonald's bought Boston Market.

"I didn't do anything here except exercise ordinary care and diligence in making sure this wasn't a crock."

I'd like to add my thanks for your research. Far from accomplishing the goal of somehow diminishing Teresa Heinz Kerry's ability to go after GW Bush with her personal fortune, boycotting Heinz products apparently does nothing more than damage a Republican donor (William R. Johnson, CEO of Heinz).

Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot, people!

I am impressed with your ability (and my lack of) to find and post statistics like in post #61. Can you locate and post donations to Democrats in the same time frame please? Thank you.

Good work, I speculated on this over a month ago and actually got a fair number of Freepers blasting me for suggesting it.
