Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread 5
CNN ^ | March 12, 2004

Posted on 03/12/2004 8:23:06 PM PST by thecabal

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

I wonder how quickly the news articles with the specific threats to Texas refineries will disappear - kind of like the original article containing the threat to I-95 the other night was no where to be found the following day.

I wonder how many are degoogling upon high level contact. The deconstruction of the internet civilization has begun.

Knowing that an accident was a possible outcome of planned activities does not reduce the serious nature of what has occurred.

If I were living there I would try to get out. I don't think I would live anywhere near that many chemical and gas plants though if I could help it. Probably mostly people that work in that industry live there.

We do try to take every story seriously on this thread until it's proven otherwise. Our motto is better safe than sorry. We live in a very different & very dangerous time now. We live with these threats which come out almost every day. The big question is which one is real and which are just jihadis spouting off their hatred for us. Eventually they will hit us again we just don't know when or where. Threat Matrix chooses to be pro active in researching all the news stories that come out that could be terror related as well as the islamic jihadis threat sites. There are so many it's hard to keep up with them, especially with only one translator.

We appreciate you coming over here to check out stories, please feel free to post anything you find that may be suspicious.

Freeport is far enough away to not be involved in this, however the shooter was never captured and could be anywhere with his *camera* and gun in his white truck continuing to do whatever it was he was doing that night at BASF. We will probably never know.

It's right up the road from it, I think. I do believe the BASF factory comes before the BP/Amoco one, when leaving Houston.

Never mind. I had that exactly backward. Freeport is further South from Texas City. Sorry.

Thank you both. I am not familiar with that area and was just curious to see if they were at all close. Be it industrial accident, sabotage, etc. I am so thankful that no one seems to have been hurt in this. I can not imagine what it must be like for the residence living close by. How nerve wracking it must be to live close to the refineries.

This sounds like an accident. However, too many accidents are happening for my peace of mind. Could be another probe to see what reaction time is. I dunno, just watching.

You're welcome. I just now read this post from last week:

I'll go back over my scenario. 3 or 4 Terrorist team disguised as paramedics in EMT Vans prepositions minutes from the Shell/Exxon Gates. A small scale explosion from a barge blows-back to create a manageable mess in one or both refineries. EMT terrorists run up on the gates in their disguised EMT vans and gain access. Before anyone figures out what is happening they ease up to the main cracking facilities and other high value targets in the refineries and detonate their car bombs. Then you have a serious problem.

Solution: Put a day of the week color tag hanging from the rear view mirrors of legitimate emergency response vehicles in the area. Use these tags as simple coded keys between personnel in the plant and with EMT to thwart fake EMTS.

Then read about how the ships with ammonium nitrate blew to start the 1947 disaster:
http://www.texas-city-tx.org/docs/history/exp.htm

You would think that the area would be pretty well fortified after the 1947 disaster combined with the current terror alert, but wouldn't the devastation still be great in loss of life, property, and to the national economy? In a weird way, I hope this was a terrorism incident because that just shows how lame they are.

Abu Sayyaf: Re-Emergence and Potential
STRATFOR ^ | March 30, 2004 2213 GMT

Posted on 03/30/2004 10:59:57 PM CST by Axion

Four suspected Abu Sayyaf militants have been arrested for allegedly plotting a series of attacks in metro Manila. The timing coincides conspicuously with the start of a regional anti-terrorism conference in the Philippines -- and bolsters the president's standing in the May 10 elections -- but it is significant that the four allegedly were part of a cell loyal to Khadaffy Janjalani, the ideologically driven co-founder of the Abu Sayyaf. The re-emergence of a reradicalized core of Abu Sayyaf militants could prove a magnet for members of the larger Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) who are disgruntled with the peace process with Manila.

...Several variations of their names have been given in the media, but a picture of the detainees is beginning to emerge from a wide sampling of sources. Among the four was a cousin of Janjalani, who is believed to have personally beheaded an American hostage in 2001. Another claims to have carried out the Feb. 27 bombing of the SuperFerry 14, which left more than 100 dead. The other two were involved in several high-profile kidnappings, as well as a 2002 bombing that left one American soldier dead and another injured. They reportedly have admitted their links to Abu Sayyaf and their alleged crimes...

Great, we have MamaDearest and jerseygirl keeping tabs on possible biological threats. You can catch all the local news on the Texas refinery threats. There have been so many things over the past three months we have lost track, this is a terrific idea.

I will preface this article with a question......if robbers can gain access to these trains along the border who else can?

By Jon E. Dougherty
© 2004 WorldNetDaily.com

On Sept. 13, 2002, FBI agents Sergio Barrio, 39, and Samantha Mikeska, 38, were aboard a freight train traversing the rolling hills of Mount Cristo Rey near the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. They were riding the rail for much the same reason agents from Wells Fargo, Pinkerton's, and other frontier-era security companies in the Old West rode rails – to thwart a rash of train robberies that had been taking place on that line for months.

According to federal officials, robbers in these remote areas of the U.S.-Mexico border operate by waiting for American freight trains to slow, perhaps from a steep incline, in a desolate area of track – areas which are still inside the United States but just yards from Mexico and escape. As the slow-moving cars creep around corners and bends in the track, robbers jump aboard unseen, then open the rail cars and begin to toss out their contents. Sometimes, says the FBI, the robbers would actually unhitch entire rail cars – usually those located at the end of long, winding trains – so they can take their time removing the stolen goods later.

But on this particular day, Agents Barrio and Mikeska, who were accompanied by a third agent located in another part of the train, were hiding in one car when they noticed a suspected train robber on the roof. The two agents alerted the third agent, who then sneaked into position and managed to pull the suspect from the roof. But, according to reports, by the time he had restrained the rooftop suspect, he noticed that Barrio and Mikeska were off the train and on the ground, staggering back onto U.S. soil with other suspects in pursuit

Much more.........
