"Judas." (Tonight at 9 on Channel 7) An ABC movie about Jesus' betrayer, starring Johnathon Schaech as the title character.

It's always a dangerous thing to put sense in the mouth of a bad guy.

Judas was a bad guy -- so despised that his name became a synonym for "traitor." According to the New Testament, he gave up Jesus to his enemies for 30 pieces of silver.

"Judas wasn't such a bad guy, he's just 'misunderstood', sorta like me!"

"Be nice to me, we still have Mickey held up in a bathroom stall..."

Sounds like the remake of "Miracle on 34th Street" where the director did not believe in Santa Claus and it showed.

"it's not blasphemous"
__________________________________________________________________

Blasphemy

1a. A contemptuous or profane act, utterance, or writing concerning God or a sacred entity.
b. The act of claiming for oneself the attributes and rights of God.

2. An irreverent or impious act, attitude, or utterance in regard to something considered inviolable or sacrosanct.

(American Heritage Dictionary)
_________________________________________________________________

According to the article, the film portrays Jesus as naive, ie. foolish. Also, it falsely attributes regret to Him (for ejecting the money changers) and misrepresents His mission. It's definitely blasphemous.

The lint trap in my dryer needs cleaning this evening. Too bad the only time I have to do it is right when this insightful movie airs.

I'm sure some of the critics who would claim that "The Passion" is all wrong if someone got a single Aramaic line wrong will proclaim that this "Judas" movie is profound and accurate because the actors use American surfer dude slang.

it presents Jesus as a naive person and Judas as a more cynical but intelligent chap who knew how the world really worked

Sound familiar? Liberals rewriting history once again to defend their worldview.

Entrusting Judas with his coins, Jesus shrugs and confesses, "I've never been good with money."

Where the heck do they get THIS stuff from...the Gospels, or Suze Orman???

Can't wait for their sequel, "Sympathy for the Devil" bemoaning the ill treatment of Satan in Mel's flick.

Mick Jagger already has the theme song written...

Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man’s soul and faith
And I was ’round when jesus christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

My comment is that I will lay odds that this movie will totally ignore the scriptural statements that Judas was a regular, unrepentent petty thief, and that he would sell out a known, exceptionally good person for money, and that his was a hypocritical personality.

I'll bet we get fed some kind of 'revolutionary' trying to throw off Roman chains....someone hoping to provoke an insurrection by having Jesus taken by authorities.

Disney: Judas

It scares me that Disney is producing C.S. Lewis' "The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe" later this year.

even a scene where Jesus and Judas wrestle in a forest at night. (Jesus wins.)

Oh... my... golly.

Before Christ saved me in '73, I was really interested in Judas. Jesus Christ Superstar had something to do with that. There are all the common guesses, such as this movie makes.

But when you come down to it, that I can think of, the Gospels reflect none of it, nothing deep at all. There is the fact that he was a thief, and used to "lift" from the common money-box (John 12:5), in the context of his complaining about the woman "wasting" expensive perfume on Jesus. This points towards nothing other than strictly financial motives.

But the real answer is in Luke 22:3 and John 13:2, where we read that Satan motivated him to do what he did.

I'd say, in view of the silence of the Gospel narratives beyond this, don't look for depth or rationale where none exists.

Pretty sure I'm going to be busy, whenever this shows.
