Wow, some Democrats voted against it.

Harry Reid, while a rabid mouthpiece for the Dems, is from Nevada which has gone from safe-Democrat (southern-style) to safe-Republican over the last ten years. He has to protect his seat, and since Nevada is as pro-gun a culture as any State in the Union, he has always voted against anti-gun measures despite being one of the most senior figures in the Democrat Senate. Being anti-gun is a surefire death sentence for a Nevada politician no matter which party line you toe.

Reid's powerful hold on his seat is already starting to get shaky due to a demographic shift. Voting for an anti-gun measure would have allowed a Republican contender to bludgeon him mercilessly with a Nevada hot-button issue. Smart politicians know how to survive.

C'mon, you gonna quit the team just because one idiot fumbled? Did the rest of the team 'compromise' when one player fumbled? Yank that idiot player, not the whole team. And if coach(the voters of ME, OH, OR, etc.) won't yank him, you just gonna quit and let the other team win?

If the AWB is put into law, it will no longer be that either team is fighting for my side.

Let's say I am a Buffalo Bill QB. Suddenly, I see my team leave, sign with another team, and get new jerseys and helmets on. Then they let the opposing team cream me every play, because after all, it's not THEIR team's QB any more.

Yeah, after a few plays, I'd quit the field.

I'm not from Missouri, but you can freakin SHOW ME some good faith, Republicans....or fuggeddabouddit.

Diddle. You are just fooling yourself. Once in D.C. all congress critters are shown what great lives they will have now and forever if they can just make all the gun owning kooks out there keep fighting against gun grabbing laws instead of using those guns to defend the constitution of the United States of America against all enemies forign and domestic. Thats a pledge I took in 1965. I think I am still obliged to honor it.

If it passes into law, I will not vote for the Republicans. If there is no difference between republican and democrat, why not just put the people in that we know are evil instead of being stabbed in the back by the ones we voted for to protect our rights?

As far as I am concerned Warner has lost my vote in the next election. If I can ever get through to the Senate (800-648-3516) I will let his people know.

If they want back stabbing so be it. What goes around comes around. I'll vote Libertarian from now on.

Mike

These principled stands over bits and pieces of the proverbial pie are going to cause the eventual and problematic loss of the entire pie.

I guess some of us don't consider the Bill of Rights to be "bits and pieces". Nor the rest of the Constitution either. Some of us, many of us in fact, swore to defend that document against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It seems to have lots of both sorts of enemies these days.

I sure as hell hope so, but this had no business passing the Senate either.

Because if the Dems win the presidency, they win control of federal prosecutors, the ATF, the Justice Dept, the ability to further pack the courts with judicial activists, and worst of all, the power of the 'executive order'. Further, if the GOP loses the WH because utopian 'x' issue conservatives stay home, wobbly GOP Senators and Congressmen are more likely to write them off as unappeasable, and thus more likely to be strong-armed by the left into further weakening of gun rights.

"Hey braintrust 98 demos in the senate is all we need. Get a hold of yourself. Punish the guilty."

Have you considered where your "line in the sand" is? This is something all of us must consider.

When would you decide to take up arms and actively attack the government?

When they have finally banned all arms? Too late there.

When they have take all property rights?

When they outlaw hate text like the Bible? That's one for a lot of people.

Everyone has their own personal line. Mine is guns, in particular, effective fire arms. This includes so-called Assault Rifles.

During the Rhodesian Bush War, the government was surrounded on 4 sides by hostile enemies. Arms and armies, supplied by the communists, were pouring in. They were losing the war and were, on a national level, dangerously low on ammo. An order was given to all soldiers to switch from full-auto to semi-auto to conserve ammo. After that, they almost never lost a battle. They had to aim and shoot, making each shot count. They won the war and beat back the communists, but they gave it up to the communists via UN sponsored 'peace talks'.

In this country, the ownership of large capacity semi-auto rifles in the defense of freedom is extremely important and it must be defended rabidly.

The Republican Party has not done this, in my mind, and will be no better than the socialist on the left if the AWB exists in any form come November.

So I hold my nose and pull the lever for Kerry Sorry I can't vote for an outright traitor (Kerry). If I had to hold my nose it would be for Bush. But if he signs that bill he has no chance of getting my vote. I'll vote librertarian and hope for the best.

You sound too much like a democrat.

And here they are....the usual suspects:

Ten Republicans broke party ranks on the assault weapons vote: Warner, Chafee, Fitzgerald, DeWine, Lugar, Voinovich, Susan Collins of Maine, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, Gordon Smith of Oregon and Olympia Snowe of Maine.

Six Democrats voted against extending the ban: Baucus, Nelson, Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Zell Miller of Georgia and Harry Reid of Nevada.

It's front page story on cnn.com now. Look who is on there, and remember where our alledged republicans put us in bed with.

This alone is enough to jump the party. If it gets knocked down later, MAYBE I'll come back.

Karl said the AWB ain't getting out of the House.

And Rove ain't lyin'. It won't get out of the House.

But if you know how the system works, the House and Senate versions are reconciled in 'committee'.

That's where it will go back in.

Yeah, me too. But we should just shut up and vote Pubbie, cause they're better than Dems, right?

We seem to get unpopular in a hurry if that's not the position we take. Although since the election is starting to look very close I've noticed the neos have backed off on the attacks a little. I guess they weren't real happy with the answer to "you're either with us or against us".

"Then we will have four years of listening to you bitch about how rotten Kerry is...and you will have contributed to electing him."

If Kerry is elected because of this little AWB fiasco, it will be the fault of GWB for failing to be the kind of man that people want to vote for. It will not be the fault of the people who warned him, "Don't go there" and then refused to vote for him when he "went there."

But it's always easier to blame the voters than the leaders, isn't it?

"Spector just won himself the GOP nomination."

No, he didn't. This might keep him from being burned in effigy (or worse), but this doesn't redeem him for all that he has done. Remember that he voted for the ban in the first place.

Toomey still gets my vote because he didn't need to be threatened to vote the right way.

I usually stay off these gun threads, because frankly, you folks are so emotional over the related political process that is is scary.

These principled stands over bits and pieces of the proverbial pie are going to cause the eventual and problematic loss of the entire pie.

While you battle over the scrap's, the rats will take the entire carcass.

You are not a Sabertooth, you are the hyena.

First, if you'd spent much time on these threads, you'd know that I don't.

Second, it's patently disingenuousness incrementally passing the Democrat agenda for them as a means of thwarting the Democrats from incrementally passing their agenda.

Third, there is no reason to compromise with the Dems on issues that cut decisively in our favor.

Advocates of cowardice, such as yourself, clutch your fears of what mean things the Dems and the media might say as a convenient security blanket, but it's a bit threadbare.

W will likley lose almost all NE states ( NH will go to the wire
Well, I'm glad you weren't really going out there on NH. But of course I have a slightly different view of who leans what and tosses when :)

Well NH is odd....NE state.,....so when I said NE states will go RATS....I wasn't thinking of NH...

Anyways .....things can certainly change for W's favor or Kerrys...but I still can't see W winning in NY,DE,RI,MA,CT,ME,VT,MD,DC,HI,WI and WA

But if the wind blows in W's favor....MI and OR will be in play too.
