"You oughtta know better than that about Fitzgerald. He takes some odd positions, but he's a hard right conservative with an independent streak. I guess you could consider following ones principles rather than party 'in name only', but he's both a social and fiscal conservative."
But he's a social liberal. Big time.
To: Ol' Dan Tucker
I fully expect this to come out of the conference with the AWB intact and it will land on Dubya's desk and he will sign it as he's promised to do. Of course it will. It's anti-freedom, isn't it?

Reps in their districts will be hearing from gunowners and those votes can sway elections. Not, If you happen to live in Harold Ford Jr's district. No, one dares run against him. And the RINO's in the district will not support anyone else but Ford.

The BushBashers need to get a clue. George W. Bush gave the signal to Tom DeLay that he was to make sure, beyond any reasonable doubt that the AWB dies in the House. That's what Bush meant when he said he wanted a clean bill. No riders. That's not what he said, he said he wanted the Senate to pass a clean bill *so as not to delay passage* of the liability protection bill. Not quite the same thing.

You can't, because people don't care about CFR, and you know that truth, but yet you wish to ignore reality and criticize people who acknowledge that reality and put yourself on an empty throne called "the most principled of all". People don't care? Then why not equate speech with the second amendment? Many here are pissed as hell at having their right to bear arms limited. Why should speech be any different?
If people don't care, then this country as a whole is done. Maybe people WILL care when they realize that during this election, the media will have the greatest influence over the masses in history. And we all know where their bais is. So, if the media can question and bash a candidate's record- UNCHALLENGED- up til and on the day of the election, why can't we as CITIZENS do the same?
I'll tell you why: CFR.
Now, tell me people don't care. By the time people DO realize what CFR really means, they will be powerless to speak out against it.
You can take my guns, but still I'll fight. But when you take my voice, you've silenced me forever.

"What now? Conference? When does the president get to lose another 1 or 2% of his base (by signing this)? Soon?"
Hey, don't worry, Seth...I'm repeatedly told by the "support Bush at any cost to our liberties" folks on this forum that we who will withhold support for Bush if he signs this bill are so insignificant to the conservative cause that it won't matter who we vote for, or whether we vote at all. So I guess we can all breathe a sigh of relief that when I and others write in Ron Paul or Tom Tancredo if Bush signs this horrible bill, it won't cost Bush the election.
To: ArrogantBustard
Any attempt by the Republican Party apologists to minimize or explain away such betrayal will, along with their previous two decades of excuses, be revealed as of no more value than the gibbering of baboons. So that's why it's a make or break issue for me. I don't vote to reelect traitors and back-stabbers.Bump that.

Now the AWB ban is different.I suspect, when it is signed, you'll be mouthin' off about how we need to support Bush anyways.
It's what you do.

LOL!
Exercising your teeth today!
I usually stay off these gun threads, because frankly, you folks are so emotional over the related political process that is is scary.
These principled stands over bits and pieces of the proverbial pie are going to cause the eventual and problematic loss of the entire pie.
While you battle over the scrap's, the rats will take the entire carcass.
You are not a Sabertooth, you are the hyena.

So 90% of Republicans vote the right way and you're through with the GOP? 10 RINOS is nearly 20% of Republicans in the Senate.
