Again people didn't care about CFR, except conservatives. It was a feel good vote and most voters didn't see it as an assault on the 1st amendment. I know you don't like that, but those are the facts.
No; people didn't care about CFR, except for the far left and the media. There was no reason to vote for it or sign it. Both were acts of cowardice. Those are the facts. Nice to see you openly distinguish yourself from conservatives, though. Now the AWB ban is different.
Only to those without principles. The relative significance of the First and Second Amendments is not predicated on short-term political expediency.

What, if anything, do you know about the history of the so-called "assault weapons" ban?

That's what I figured. The BushBashers need to get a clue. George W. Bush gave the signal to Tom DeLay that he was to make sure, beyond any reasonable doubt that the AWB dies in the House. That's what Bush meant when he said he wanted a clean bill. No riders.
This thing will be taken out in conference. Period. The AWB is dead as a doornail. Bush said he would sign an AWB extension, but can't afford to piss off his base. He wants DeLay to do the dirty work for him.
DeLay will not only do the dirty work for him. He will enjoy doing the dirty work for him.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

Vote Libertarian and your vote is a Democrat vote.
Voting for Bush is voting for a domestic policy liberal. And after CFR, Medicare, 'No Child Left Behind', you know I am RIGHT.
To: section9
How can you POSSIBLY saying this is dead? I think it's going to be passed along with the gunshow ban and the ammo ban as well. I sure don't see any signs of the reps standing up for us this time.

I fully expected every poison pill amendment to pass the Senate since it is so closely divided, there are 1/2 a dozen or so RINO's and the Rats brought Kerry & Edwards back for the votes. I still think the entire purpose is to kill the entire bill, not pass the AWB or anything else.
I'll put my trust in Tom Delay on this one. He has promised numerous times to kill the AWB and Delay is a man who fights for what he believes.
And just as a note, Bush has supported the AWB since 1999. He hasn't recently come out in favor of it. So for everyone who is screaming "I'll never vote for Bush again if he signs it", check and see if you voted for him in 2000. If you did, then you obviously didn't do enough homework on President Bush's 1999-2000 platform.

But what they show your ignorance of political nuance all you want, that's your right and no one has taken that away.

The House had better knock this one out in Committee, or Bush will sign it and lose 500,000 votes, minimum, and maybe the Election! Try more like 6-7 million votes .... one issue gun owning voters are not a small block at all.

Figures.
Bush must be praying for this to pass. He's betrayed so many conservative principles, this one would be a big one in Karl's hat.

No, I meant pro conservative in the sense that the vast majority of working class citizens who find a way to contribute $2000 determine who wins, not the small segment of the populace from Hollywood who were given $10 million increments in soft money to the DNC, who then funnelled it to candidates. When working people, not welfare types, decide matters, that is pro conservative. The Dems somehow stumbled their way into this disaster.
You can lie to yourself, but not to me. Anti-Constitutional, anti First Amendment legislation that restricts the freedom of political speech is not now, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be, "pro-conservative." You may now proceed to trumpet your craven, mercenary lack of principles as some sort of perverted virtue.

Your basic blue state, red state breakdown with just a couple braking that mold.
Going nowhere in the house. The red states control and the congresscritters from the red states are much more conservative than their counterparts in the senate.
