My wife and I saw the movie last night here in Charleston SC. We got to our seats 25 minutes before the movie was scheduled to start and it was almost completely full. We got two of the last seats available. We sat very close to the front on the flat area in front of the elevated grandstand seats. There were so many people there to see the movie that the theater cancelled another movie and threw up another reel in an adjoining theater room. PACKED!

Thank you Liz.

Thanks for your comments. I stand by my take on this.

how can anyone condone selling jesus for profit? isn't it funny how this catholic filmmaker is making record profits, donating a great deal to the catholic church at a time when the church needs money desparately to payoff the victims of sexual abuse?a.) What's wrong with profit?
b.) What's wrong with asking people to pay for something that cost money to make?
c.) What makes you think that we should not have to pay to see a movie about the life of Christ?
d.) I'm pretty sure that Bible makers charge for the book about Christ and some of them make a profit.
e.) Are you accusing Mel Gibson of creating a movie for the express purpose of endowing a slush fund for sexual abuse victims?
f.) Why are you so cynical?

yeah, I saw the bigot Friedman on Fox last night, defending himself against Hannity's replacement. He tried to claim he wasn't opposed to movies about Christ... He liked Scorcese's after all.

I don't see this as a "Repeat business" movie. Actually, I think it is. Everyone knows the plot going in, it is the emotion that is compelling. The emotional experience can be re-experienced. Witness Titanic, which has massive repeat business from emotion-laden females.

No, JC isn't wearing that watch... That arm (wearing black sleeves, also, btw) belongs to the man wearing Sun Glasses behind JC.

I plan on giving a copy of the DVD to everyone in my extended family when it comes out -- that's 5 copies plus 1 for me.That is such a good idea! :)

Pretty soon those numbers may add up to something ;-)

Nope, looks like a guy in the background, holding up his arm (using a light-meter?).

Nice, very nice, take. Words to live by. Jesus came to earth not to bring peace but with a sword. He could not fight His slayers. But we can."But I say to you, love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you."

I think his critics are praying it dies an early death. Yes, but praying to whom?

I just keep thinking to myself, "Jesus and moneychangers, Jesus and moneychangers." Anyone else see this as ironic?
