February 28, 2004 -- Mel Gibson's controversial "The Passion of the Christ" scored a second strong day and could take in a whopping $100 million at the box office in just its first five days, experts said yesterday. Thursday's reported take by distributor Newmarket was an estimated $14.7 million, a drop from Wednesday's opening-day number of $23.6 million.

Just a heads up here, the History channel is doing a special on the Passion tonight (one of their "History versus Hollywood" shows). They are going to show a lot of behind the scenes making of the movie.

I just bought Mel Gibson/Ken Duncan's collaborative book, "The Passion," on Amazon, along with the soundtrack.

The book is at #3! The soundtrack at #2!

We have plans today to see the movie for the second time.

Good morning, FReepers and Freeperettes! :)
Got to love the success of this film!
For Gibson, it's not a movie, IT IS A MISSION.
Hubby and I see it tomorrow!

Mel is doing something even more devastating to Hollywood than making a bunch of money. He made a motion picture without Hollywood money, without name stars and without their distribution help.

Mel may be bringing down the whole rotten Hollywood system of whores, liars and thieves.

Future films might be made and distributed without Hollywood even touching them with those filthy hands.

That's what is really scary for everyone in the whorehouse called Hollywood.

Do you think they will sell "official TPOC" nativity scene figurines?

Did you forget your /sarcasm tag? :)

"Generally you expect a 60 percent drop on a Thursday, because people who were dying to see it would go on Wednesday, and everyone else tends to wait for the weekend," said Martin Grove, a box-office analyst for the Hollywood Reporter

Yup, that's us. Hubby and I don't have a babysitter and weekdays are busy for us. I am seeing it at noon and hubby is seeing it later in the day at our local theatre(which for our smallish outlying area of Columbus, already has about 7 showings at 930am sold--I'm assuming churches--and the 710 pm is already sold out today)

Ditto here, I belong to a local scrapbooking club and these ladies have been jabbering about it for a while. The usual leftists and pagans on there are quiet, but I'm sure they haven't missed the chatter. I can only pray that they will at least privately consider and see the Passion.

they are already being cursed....egg on their face's and empty spaces in their wallets.

I don't know about the "cursed" part, however some H-wood biggies are showing themselves smart enough to note the direction of the wind.

Both Katzenberg and Geffen issued hasty clarifications on their positions, distancing themselves from the NY Times "source" who claimed Gibson was going to be blackballed.

I'm sure Mel's film sucking all the entertainment media oxygen out of the room right at Oscar week is not sitting too well with the H-wood gang either, and tomorrow night's awards show should be pretty interesting.

I saw it by myself last night and I'm going to make my wife go. It was weird I times I felt like I did not even need the subtitles. Definitely going to be a big hit around the globe.

Long lines, three 30 minute staggered showings, four per day, not an empty seat.

We live in a rural area in eastern NM and our little theater won't get it untl last of March, but the owner said he is already received more calls on this film than any other in his 20 years of being in business, so the take won't be as big but we are looking at all rural and remote areas being sold out at the last of March. denco

Great flick! I saw it yesterday and was deeply moved. Those secular Jews that badmouthed this movie should be ashamed of themselves. This was a wonderful movie for both Christians and Jews of strong faith. Rather than push Christians and Jews apart it will bring us together in love of the Lord and life to defeat the secular forces in our country and around the world. Humanity and the Roman army killed Christ. Those of us that know history, know that the Roman army was brutal in putting down what it perceived as insurrection and challenge to its authority. The forces of secular belief must be restrained or they will destroy the world. We can join together and begin the process this November by defeating and destroying the current Godless, secular, "traitor" Democrat Party. Americans, Christians, Jews and all God worshipping people, let us rise up and defend freedom and religious beliefs for all mankind and all religions. John Kerry who has said: "I don't know whether I will see the "Passion" or not, I may not have time" shows where his belief and loyalty lies. I don't not want him, or anyone like him, as the leader of the United States. My friends more than an election is at stake!

We're going to see it Sun. at one of those historic theaters that wasn't torn down. It has 400 seats, and they're not selling tickets ahead of time. We'll have to wait in line.

Each your heart out, liberal left. You could have made a movie like this. Instead you have stooped as low as is humanly possible to turn out the most vile media you could. May your families be cursed for generations to come, for your evil influence on our society.

Nice, very nice, take. Words to live by. Jesus came to earth not to bring peace but with a sword. He could not fight His slayers. But we can.

The History Channel does this (comparing the Hollywood version of history to the facts) extremely well. I look forward to seeing their take on The Passion.
